We had the good fortune of connecting with Ree Lambert and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ree, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
For me it was never really a question that I wanted to pursue a creative career. Ever since I was little I always had a pencil in my hand and I have always been humming or singing to myself. I love art and music, and surprisingly, I have done well in both the art and music fields growing up. From being the little girl getting applause from a group of people in a waiting room for belting my heart out in the bathroom with my mother who probably didn’t know if she should be proud or mortified, to singing in front of a stadium with my school choir in front of one of our presidents.

My artwork has been to more places than I can think of. It reminds me of the Jonny Cash song, “I’ve been everywhere.” My works have been a lot of places and been in a lot of shows. I am in three art shows right now, and being my own promoter and manager, while having another full time job can make things complicated like trying to remember due dates, pick up dates, and finding new opportunities. However, I know that the opportunities are limitless, I just have to continue to go after them.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I love creating art, it has truly become a passion of mine. However, sometimes it is hard to have a work life balance with it and my 9 to 5 job. I currently run a studio classroom at a high school for a Fine Arts Academy and I have students from around the United States specifically coming to my high school to take my program. Last year we won best in state for our ceramics program and my students work got nation wide recognition. Sharing my passion is a joy of mine. However, my work life can sometimes take away from the time that I get to spend creating my own work. That being said, that means that my work is limited. The pieces that I create are meaningful to me and are hard to part with.

In the past I have struggled with people trying to purchase work and make a profit without me. Luckily, I realized what they were doing before I sold them my work, however, it makes me really nervous to sell my original pieces so I mostly sell my prints or my ceramic works as they are harder to replicate and I have a strong connection to my pieces.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I will be honest, any time that we are hanging out with friends we are interested in looking into finding authentic Mexican cuisine. I don’t have any favorites, I like it all!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am thankful to have so many people in my life whom have helped me and supported me along the way. From the art supplies my parents gave me every year for Christmas, to my art teachers in grade school, there have been so many people who have helped shape my life into what it is today and for that I will be forever grateful.
