We had the good fortune of connecting with Red Rob and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Red, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Taking risks has played everything into my life. Even taking the risk to turn music into a career was the greatest thing I ever decided to do. I always struggled deciding what it was I wanted to do for a living and I never realized how much of an important role music has played in my life until I actually started song writing. Having an outlet that allows you to express yourself and be heard when you never felt like people were listening is liberating and beautiful because of all the people that resonate with your work. It’s a whole different world to pursue any kind of passion for a full-time profit but I don’t regret a single second of it and I’ll always encourage others to do the same!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is mostly based in Nerd/Geek culture and pop culture. I’ve always been a nerdy guy growing up, a typical social outcast playing video games and reading comics so when it came down to what I wanted to make music about the answer was obvious. Writing about myself/my life through different popular medias or characters makes both the music and the inspiration feel much more personal to myself, it holds the same for my current audience. It’s a concept shared by fellow artists in the community and it’s not something that can be easily replicated. I’m very proud of what it’s actually done for my own writing/artistic abilities, allowing me to explore my own life and re-tell it where I originally might not have been able too before. It’s very niche but incredibly impactful as a genre and is home to many other individuals who relate to these ideas and experiences!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d have take them on a camping trip, there are a lot of beautiful sights to see where I live and spending time outside and connecting with nature is calming to me. Going out to party or attending any kind of event/park is great but it’s one of those places where inspiration strikes without even trying to write, getting to share those moments and music with someone around a campfire is just awesome. The Appalachian Mountains are, in my opinion, one of the most unique places to visit in the world and a very underappreciated region of the United States. I grew up here and couldn’t imagine wanting to settle down anywhere else. Plus a lot of my work involves me being behind a computer screen or being inside so it’s very refreshing to get away from it once in a while!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First is absolutely my family. My Mom, Dad, sister & Grandparents have been huge support and have inspired me to really push myself as a person & artist. Ever since I was little they exposed me to a lot of different music and that really rooted it in my subconscious, that really helped me to find appreciation for every art form and genre I come across now. Second, my good friends Avery & Clay who had helped me realize this is what I had wanted to do. We practically grew up together so we’ve been through a lot and knowing they connect with the music as much as I do pushed me. Lastly my HydraGoons, the group of fellow Nerdcore artists who always test my limits and help each other live up to our fullest potentials!
