We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Bargeron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca, where are you from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Growing up I was very self-conscious and struggled with depression and anxiety. Although I made good grades, I had difficulty making friends and felt uncomfortable in my own skin. I watched as other children seemed to be happy and well-adjusted and would wonder, “What is wrong with me?” In my adolescence and young adulthood, I sought out anything that could change the way I felt inside (i.e. religion, substances, relationships). Many of these things left me more isolated and confused. Personally, things started to change for the positive when I started listening to my inner voice and honoring my own needs.

My journey was challenging and long, but over time I learned to speak my authentic truth and stop working so hard to please others. The work that I do is a tribute to my personal journey of self-discovery. I am passionate about sharing what I have learned with others, in an effort to lighten the load for my fellow humans. One thing that I learned during my journey, was that everyone (or the vast majority of people) at some point or another, feel isolated, alone and like they are just not good enough. I believe the truth is that we all have divine self essence within us that holds strengths, talents and just a touch of magic! It is my passion to facilitate healing spaces for others to access this guidance and release the blockages keeping someone from being the most vibrant and fullest expression of themselves, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or love-style.

What should our readers know about your business?
In addition to my individual therapy practice with clients, I have a passion and interest in group facilitation. I was able to first find my voice and learn to trust myself in group work, and want to share that with others. After growing up a very shy child, I have found a true talent for bringing people together and encouraging group members to feel comfortable with self-expression and self-discovery. I love guiding people through processes that connect them to their inner light and have them feel more confident stepping into their wholeness.

I have two workshops that I currently offer, one is Somatic Art and the other Mind, Body and Imagination. The first
incorporates the use of creativity, mindfulness and sensory integration. The latter is similar, but with more emphasis on imaginative play to build resiliency and connection. I take a mind-body approach to working with clients both individually and in group work. I believe that we are more than just our minds and cognitive thinking, and that the experience of our body sensations affects our current perspective and interactions with others. Through holistic and mindfulness practices I assist my clients in accessing their inner essence.

Owning my own business and following my dreams, though important, has not always been easy. My husband and I run the business together. He offers sound healing and music coaching. So having two young children and both of us being entrepreneurs, juggling household responsibilities, schedules and maintaining a budget with unpredictable incomes can be challenging!

Lastly, I would like to note additional factors that have impacted my journey in countless ways (seen and unseen). I identify as gender and relationship non-conforming. I am passionate about feminist and queer theory and am LGBTQ+ friendly and affirming. Although I believe society is progressing and has come a long way. There is still room to grow in honoring the uniqueness of each human being and their contribution. On the flip side I think it’s important to acknowledge that I may have benefited from economic, educational, and racial privileges.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite things about Georgia is all the natural spaces. We have beautiful hiking trails, lakes, rivers and even waterfalls. I would take them to see the trees change in autumn and white water rafting during the summer.

But first, we would get coffee and a gluten-free cinnamon roll at RISE Coffee and Tea. If we had time, take a soap making class at Green Girl Basics and eat lunch at Souper Jenny. Lastly, I love boba tea, so we would need to check out Sweet Hut for something yummy!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe that I have learned something from everyone that has crossed my path. Here are a few people, organizations and books that are present in my mind today:

It all started with amazing coaches, including Krista Petty Raimer and Michael Strasner, and my participation in transformational leadership training. Then 12-step groups and Unity Church provided me with direction, support and fellowship along the way.

Avril Loy Maynard and Rebekah Tchouta took a chance on me and encouraged me, even before I saw it myself.

I want to thank Anna Baxter and Bec Cranford for being unapologetically themselves, thus cracking the door open for others to follow, and Jamie Bray for guidance and support.

The Body Sex Workshop with Amy Weissfeld allowed me to reclaim my own passion, body and pleasure.
Trainings through the Institute for Sensorimotor Art Therapy & School for Initiatic Art Therapy and the life-changing books by Bessel van der Kolk (The Body Keeps the Score) and Louise Hay (Heal Your Body)

And of course last but not least, my husband, wonderfully supportive friends and two inspirational children!
