We had the good fortune of connecting with REAL and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi REAL, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue an artistic or creative career because through art I am able to express myself, I am able to show people who I truly am, and I’m able to connect with others simply with my different sides of creativity. I make music, I model, and I act; and, each one of these bring out a different artistic side of me. A side that resonates with someone, a side that’s relatable, a side that’s REAL.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art, my music, is simply a look inside of my mind. What you hear was once a thought, was once an entry in my diary, and I share my stories through my music to resonate with those who listen. I’m still at the beginning phase of my music career, I’m still learning the business, still making a name for myself, still developing everlasting relationships, and still growing as an artist. This road hasn’t been easy, but anything worth having doesn’t come easy. I’ve overcome these challenges by honing my skills, staying focused and driven, and simply being me, REAL. I’ve learned you have to stay true to yourself, express yourself freely, be willing to learn and grow as a person, and never get complacent. Stay hungry!
What sets me apart from others is my look and sound. I have a unique sound, it’s a mixture of R&B and Rap, but with a poetic twist to it. And, as far as my look, I wear suits literally ALL THE TIME! It’s to a point if I’m not wearing a suit or “dressed up” everyone thinks something’s wrong.
I want the world to know me, to know what you see is what you get, to know I will continue to shine Light and Love to those I encounter and I will continue to give y’all DOPE VIBES. I want to continue to build amazing supporters who I call REAL Ones, who believe in me, and believe in themselves. I want the world to know it’s okay to be you, the REAL you. And, of course I want you all to know I have new merchandise and music on the way. My album “Entries In My Diary II” drops this November.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hmmm.. we would go to this amazing coffee shop downtown called “Black Coffee ATL”. It’s a vibe in there and their Matcha Latte is amazing. We’d go to this new Arcade called “Slingshot Social Game Club”, it’s an adult ONLY arcade and you’re going to enjoy yourself. We’d probably get ramen from “Jinya”, asian food from “OSHA” or Italian food from “Mirko Pasta”, and grab boba from my favorite spot called “ShareTea”. There’s so many places to visit here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, is the reason for my name REAL and a big part of why I am the person I am today. My REAL Ones, those who constantly support me and believe in me; I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without them. My brother, DML Made It, without him, I wouldn’t release music, he’s my ear, my engineer, my Righthand Man. And last but not least, my MOM, without her I wouldn’t be here, she’s simply the reason for my drive and ambition to create.
