We had the good fortune of connecting with Rayeanna Motley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rayeanna, why did you pursue a creative career?
Throughout the search of finding my passion, I’ve learnt the value of storytelling, the root of evocation, and connection through moving and still imagery. Everyone has their own unique background, and I enjoy cultivating our similarities and differences to highlight universal truths and aspirations. Every story carries different components that can be corresponded to real, unreal, and surreal events. These events evoke emotions that we all can relate to. Film allows me to be creative and free, and it helps me to stay connected with the story. It is a field that has many different layers from pre to post production making it very interactive. I love this career because it keeps me stimulated and it is ever evolving.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started off doing photography which led to my interest in film. I was fortunate enough to have very talented individuals to teach me all that I know about my craft. I specialize in timelapse photography and narrative filmmaking. One lesson that I’ve learnt is to be attentive to detail, and to not stress when things don’t go as planned. There are times where everything can go wrong and that is where problem solving and handling things under pressure comes in. I also learnt that film is very collaborative, and having the patience and the tolerance to deal with people and work as a team is especially vital. I want people to know that my work evokes emotions in more ways than just one with its creative approach and more importantly with its story.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would recommend exploring Piedmont Park, the beltline, and Ponce City Market for an awesome view and tour of the city. I enjoy piedmont park because it is the perfect place to relax with friends and family. The beltline leads you to many other attractions around the city which makes for a great way to explore Atlanta. Ponce City Market is a great hangout place. They have really nice boutique stores and lots of food options there!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank a very talented photographer by the name of Mathieu Channer who has helped me in more ways than I could’ve ever imaged.
