We had the good fortune of connecting with Raven Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raven, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
What was the most important decision I made that contributed to my success ? Although I still have a long way to go to be where I want to be with my business. I think the most important decision I made was to get out of my own way & stay out of my way . Do whatever it is I need to do that when my time on earth comes to an end , I can go knowing I lived the life I was put here to live & I didnt sell myself short just settling and being average. I can reach any heights as long as I stay focused , work , & dont let anything or anyone get me off track. Anything I want in life is possible , I just have to work towards it and dont stop.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Anybody that knows me knows since I was a kid Ive never been average. I was always smart , always different, always one of the best in anything I did, always a peoples person, & anything I said I was going to do or wanted to do , I get it done. I always told my friends and my family jokingly , I hated going to work so much, I know Im not here to just be average, I just know im supposed to be rich lol because work was just not for me . I was not meant to just work a 9-5 helping make someone elses dreams come true when I was blessed with so many great qualities and talents since young, but for many years I didnt feel like I had a passion for anything so I continued to work trying different career fields . It wasnt until the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic that left me unemployed and home bored for weeks before my mind started going. I feel like I went through like a spiritual awakening & i felt like I needed change , I needed something to be proud of , life was short , so many peole were dying & if my time to depart came at that moment I would be mad as hell because I havent lived to my full potential & I know it was simply because I was in my own way . I went ahead and ordered a little $30 cake decorating kit off amazon & said I was going to try my hand at this cake art stuff that I always admired & watched on tv fascinated but never tried. I loved cooking & Im great in the kitchen but cake art was so much more fascinating to me, I Love FUN. My 1st cake is was a success & it came so naturally . I loved it and received so much support from the very 1st cake, people saw the potential in me from a small 6 inch sprinkled covered cake w a few pieces of candy on it lol It was so fun , i enjoyed doing it. From there I started “ Kake It Til You Make It LLC “ making custom cakes , ice cream & treats but Most of my clientele was in New York since thats where I lived 23 years of my life so I made a hard decision to pack up & move back to NY for 1 year to build up my business & get some experience. To be successful in your business sometimes you have to make temporary sacrifices . The abundance of support Kake It Til You Make It received in NY over a year put me in a position to start my 2nd business venture Themecatcher Party Rentals. We also just expanded into Dessert Themed candles “ Wick Or Treat “ that will be launching December 2021 . Needless to say NY has been great to us but our time here has come to an end & We’re heading back down to our second home ATL where it all began. No it has not been all easy, it was times I felt like i needed a break, wanted to quit, cried, sleepless weekends to get the job done, but the job always got done & I wouldnt trade being my own boss , building my own brand for anything. I learned that you have to pace yourself, never give up, that I HAVE TIME to build my brand nothing js built over night , its not a race nor is it a competition, as long as I do at least 1 thing a day towards building my business Im going to get where I want to be , there will be ups there will be slow peaks but consistency is key & if i dont do it nobody else can do it for me. I cant wait to continue this journey as we continue to grow & build in Atlanta. I cant wait to take advantage of every opportunity Atlanta has for me. We have so much more to come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anytime my bestfriends come to town its a weekend to remember! We do many things from tourists attractions , trying new places to eat to partying. I love taking my visitors to the Martin Luther King JR museum if they never been, it was one of the 1st things I did when I moved to GA . Mama’s Cocina Latina 24 hour Mexican restaurant is a must ! We literally go there every night after the club , they shrimp tacos are the best . Margaritaville at Lake Lanier in the summer time is one of my new favorite places to go for a real resort vacation vibe . We’ve been to so many different clubs , there always a party in ATL 7days a week . I love to eat at Busy Bee , Hattie Marie’s . Definitely cant forgrt about Big Dave’s ! They have the best philly cheesesteak egg rolls .

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friends & my family are my biggest supporters . They seriously do not play about me ! From the smallest things to the bigger ones my super amazing friends & family cheer me on and are always so proud of me . They believe I can do anything & support me always . My momager “ Hype Mom “ as she likes to call herself lol forget about it , my #1fan & supporter she does anything to make the dream come true she even took over the custom treats department & doing amazing might I add so thank you to everyone in my corner yall keep me motivated.
