We had the good fortune of connecting with Rashad David from Deep End Music and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rashad, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ownership has always been something on all of our minds so that we could maximize our earnings and create a legacy that none of us had the luxury of growing up with especially as African Americans. Bryant, Devontae, Gabe, and Marcus have all been working individual in various music spaces but all felt that they could be accomplishing more to an extent. Doing something as a collective has been something on Devontae and Bryant’s mind for some time but nothing was ever put into motion aside from talks. Ultimately, after some conversations, it made sense for the five of us to work together to put a more concerted effort in setting ourselves up to be successful in the industry.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Bryant Waves—

My journey began as a listener both to main stream music as well as my older brother, Chris, who made music himself. As the years went on and I began to learn and explore more about myself, I was introduced to Truth, Coach Basic, and eventually CEO SELF who began to help start my entry into the industry. The path has not been easy at all and is something that I am still learning and growing through. I was adopted at 2 months old which has kept my perspective on life pretty open. I believe those two aspects about myself will be major in helping me standout in the industry but has also helped me push through the roadblocks that I’ve had over the years. My hope is that people are able to relate to my story and that my music will help people learn to be their happiest by being themselves. Everyone is a 1 of 1 and deserves that respect of being their authentic self.

Be Real You Are Not Them (B.R.Y.A.N.T).

Devontae–

Honestly, I am most proud that as a group, we are all working together to help each other achieve our dreams. I am also proud of the music and progress that we’ve made as a group in such a short time. Saying that this was something i wanted to do was easy but execution of this dream has come with plenty of challenges. Setting up a music group has been something I’ve wanted to do for years but different circumstances have slowed that down up until now. The biggest thing I’ve learned is to be a student of the game because there is always so much more you can learn. There are so many ways to be successful we just have to figure out what works best for us.

Ju$tGabe—
My journey started similar to Bryant as a listener growing up. I have always been a fan of Hip Hop and R&B and the way music made me feel is something that I still feel to this day. Music has always been an escape for me. It gives me an opportunity to think clearly on any issues that I am having personally, it allows for me to tell me story, my feelings, my emotions, my experiences, etc. I am most proud of all of the music that I have made so far. I think it is important for you to be your own biggest fan as well as your own biggest critic. Ultimately, my goal is for our music/art to bring people together and hopefully make them feel how I feel whenever I hear a great song.

MarcusOnTheBeat —
As everyone has mentioned, it hasn’t been easy thus far but dedication, hard work, and being passionate about my craft has helped me push through the different challenges that I’ve been faced with. I am consistently learning different ways to improve my craft. To get to this point, everything that I’ve done has been with a purpose. I am driven to achieve my goals and nothing will stop that. I want the world to see our art and hopefully appreciate what we have done and will continue to do as we grow.

Rashad—
I am most proud of having an opportunity to work with my friends in a way that we can all push/help each other be successful. A lot of the music industry is very new to me so all of it has been a challenge to catch up to things everyone else may have already learned. My hope is that Deep End Music can inspire others that look like us to come together (in any profession) to continue to boost each other and help everyone reach their dreams

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bryant Waves— Got to go to the Beltline, MJQ, LadyBird, Pancake Social, really anywhere around the area has good food, drinks, and there’s art all around.

Ju$t Gabe- Gotta hit Cascade and hit the skate rink for sure

Devontae- East Atlanta Village

MarcusOnTheBeat- I would say the Beltline as well

Rashad— Got to hit lenox for sure. Got to go to a United game as well the atmosphere is crazy

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people to thank for helping us get to this point both as individuals and as a group. First and foremost, we’d like to thank our friends and family for the support, the guidance, the feedback, the love, and everything else that is provided. More specifically on the music side of things, we’d like to thank Marcusonthebeat, GildeaGoCrazy, Freshleyisdifferent, Zayhead Beatz, and so many others for helping make the sound come to life.
