We had the good fortune of connecting with Raphael Fleuristal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raphael, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The idea to start Engaged Living Seniors stemmed from a deep personal passion for improving the quality of life for seniors in our community. I recognized a gap in the market where many senior care providers were either part of a large franchise or lacked a the personalized touch that makes a difference in someone’s life. My goal was to create a company that not only delivers high quality, personalized care but also fosters genuine connections with our clients.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I grew in Florida and attended the University of South Florida. I was pre-med for the longest time but quickly realized I wouldn’t enjoy providing hands on care. Throughout my life, I’ve always enjoyed leadership roles throughout many organizations and wanted a career that allowed me to lead and still be involved in healthcare. My mother was a caregiver for a skilled nursing facility after moving to the United States so I was always around seniors and the stories.

Shortly after completing my first bachelor’s degree, I landed an administrator in training position with a senior housing operator. Since then I’ve held positions such as Executive Director and more recently Vice President of Operations. Over the year, I have had the opportunity to make significant impact in dozens of senior living communities.

In January 2023, I took the bold step by launching Engaged Living Seniors, marking my entry into the home health care space. Every day since then has been a new lesson. I went from managing of team of 500 delegating to wearing 10 different hats every day in the business. I’ve learned that if you are patient and continue to grind, the rewards do come in sooner or later. Engaged Living Seniors is the start to the Engaged Living brand and have plans to expand our service offering and service areas.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve lived north of city since I have been here but I enjoy weekend staycations in midtown. I love attending events and walking around piedmont park, and taking advantage of the awesome nightlife the city has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Erin Patrick, the founder and owner of Building Blocks Pediatric. She is an amazing support for everything in life right now.
