We had the good fortune of connecting with Ranika Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ranika, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from a small town in N.C. by the name of Farmville. Growing up we didn’t always have a lot, and I was basically raised off of love my family was BIG on that. Everyone in the town knew each other and was family to each other. My background has impacted me to want to be able to beat the odds. It has shown me your are more than where you are from and definitely keeps me humble. So it’s pushed me to want to be more than the circumstances I come from.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Black Elegance Body Care is a skin care business designed to celebrate, aid, provide glow and nourishment to Black African American women’s skin. We offer Whipped Shea Body Butter Cremes and Oils. All products are handmade with love, also with all natural products and oils. Vegan and cruelty free, and made for all skin types. This product was designed in mind to help Black Women celebrate the beautiful skin we so proudly have! What I’m most proud about is to have a product that is designed just for our skincare. To get to where I am today took a lot of networking, risks, faith and consistency. This has not been easy, but the more I stay committed to it the more results I see. So this has allowed me to overcome the challenge of it. Some things I have learned along the way are to believe in yourself and your product/ business to the fullest, shoot your shot you never know, and keep God first. What I want the world to know about me is that I never give up, as for my brand is that we have so much more growing to do, we are here to stay and looking to be known worldwide.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So my Best friends visit me all the time and I love to take them around Atlanta! Question is where haven’t we been! But if I had to choose a spot I would take them to Red Martini, Skylounge Rooftop for the beautiful scenery and for brunch vibes Fins and Feathers or BQE on a Sunday. Also visit the Botanical Gardens, Dinner I would say Blaze Steak and Seafood.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank my Husband, and my kids for always believing in me and supporting me with any decisions I make for us! My mother who is my number one cheerleader and confident. My beautiful grandmother who has always taught and showed me unconditional love and my friends and family who root for me constantly and support my endeavors. The city of Atlanta GA for so many opportunities and also the story by Florence Scovel Shinny called ” The Game Of Life”.
