We had the good fortune of connecting with raminbeatz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi raminbeatz, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I started pursuing a creative career because this path seemed like the most fun to me to be honest. Before starting my music career I used to be a professional poker player (I played for over 11 years). But in the past 2 or 3 years of my poker career I started to feel bored. Playing a game for a living was fun at first ,especially at a young age, but in the long term it was not fulfilling enough. And I started to think about life and what I’d want to achieve. Money was never the main priority to me, because I’m a strong believer that you have to love and enjoy what you do first. If you’re truly passionate about something you’ll want to do it to the best of your ability. And if you do something really good than it usually has a great value to it. So I was thinking about it from a point of «what would be the most fun thing for me to do?». I always loved music a lot. In my house music was really played all day. I would just never turn it off. So I decided to give my passion for music a shot. I bought an electric piano, and started learning some music theory. And the feeling that it gave me was just unreal. Even though the music that I made at that time sounded really terrible, it felt to me like it was something special. So it very quickly became my number one passion. I dedicated all my time to becoming better at it from that point on. And I’m still trying to get better at it everyday. So to answer that question in short, I pursued this career because of passion.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Right now the main focus of what I do is music. I make hip-hop beats for artists to rap on. I focus on the old school sound, not the most popular music right now, but still loved by many. Music for true fans of the hip-hop culture. I grew up listening to this type of music, so when I started to make beats myself it sort of came naturally to me. So I didn’t struggle with ideas too much. It was executing the ideas where the struggles began. For instance the idea was there, but the music sounded nothing like I wanted it to in my head. That’s where I had to learn how to do mixing and mastering. And translate what I had in my mind into sounds. So I had to watch hours and hours of YouTube videos and tutorials on mixing and mastering. That’s how I got better at it. Just listening to what people with experience have to say about it and then spending hours trying those things out myself. This is how I got to a point where I can offer my skills to other people now. Aside from making beats I also do mixing and mastering, helping people make their music sound good and ready for releases. That made me realize I can learn basically any skill I want. This is how I also got into making cover arts for music. I needed covers for my beat tapes to put out so I had to learn how to make them. I loved doing it so much, I really got into it. So now I do cover arts and put some of them out for sell for other people to use. But it all starts with passion for the activity itself first.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well right now I live in Saint-Petersburg. You can basically touch history on every step here. I would definitely show all the main cites to a person who has never been here before (such as Hermitage, Peterhof’s Palace with it’s magnificent fountains, Russian museum and etc). Because they are absolutely worth seeing. But that would not be the main focus. I’d try to show the authentic Saint-P. The city of small bars and so-called well yards. There are actually some bar tours out here, You just go from bar to bar and learn about the history of the city while doing it. On foot of course, A little drinking game with Saint-Petersburg itself.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First of all shoutout to my lovely wife Alena for always supporting me at all points of my career and life. She’s the best partner I could hope for. She always supported me no matter what I did and never doubted me. She helped my transition into music to be as smooth as it possibly could. Her help is immeasurable. Shout out to the whole Whata Gang family. And huge, huge shoutout to people who like to do music and business with me, and to people who just love and support what I do. They are the reason why I’m able to make music my career and I don’t take it for granted. I’d love to name them all by their names but the list would be too long. But I really appreciate every single one them. They know who they are.
