We had the good fortune of connecting with Rafael Castillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rafael, why did you pursue a creative career?
At the time that I decided to go head on into this career path, there was one thing I knew forsure. The arts(acting specially) was where my heart was. I had tried different things. I played football up until my sophomore year in college chasing a dream as a pro athlete. I started studying business, and working at footlocker in order to pursue my dream of opening a shoe store… it always felt like work, but when I took my first Acting class I felt FREE. I’ve never let money dictate my moves. Happiness is always at the forefront, and acting made me happy.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Mannnnn, everything about this game keeps you busy lol People think the work comes when you book the job, but that’s not true in the slightest case. If anything the job is when you get to play. A reward for all the hard work you’ve put in prior. Acting is an art form in which you’re never really done learning, (simply because it’s one that literally imitates life) and that’s what keeps me the busiest. Learning, studying, and growing in the craft. That’s an everyday thing. Its the foundation of it all. Then you have auditions which are second. That’s when you finally get to implement all the things you’ve been working on or learning. And those, are apart of the work as well. As they say “Actors are professional auditioners” lol All in all, it’s a busy job, if you’re doin it right, but the rewards are sooooo so sweet.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Lol this is definitely not a question for a homebody. Yikessss. Atlanta has a lot to offer for sure (Though I definitely haven’t taken advantage). But I can say that prior to the pandemic, every Tuesday, I’d meet up with a friend at ATL Breakfast Club (which is still open), eat a great meal, walk around the area a bit(Which includes coca-cola world, The Aquarium, The Civil Rights Museum, and Centennial Olympic Park), and right after drive to Phipps Plaza and watch a movie at the AMC lol That’s a great day in the city to me. We’ll figure something out the rest of the week lmao
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family. My mom, my two older brothers, and my older sister. Without these 4 individuals I would 100% not be where I am today. They have all at one point or another made sure to work as hard as they can so that I’m allowed to pursue my dreams. Never asked anything of me in return except to put all my effort in to what I’m chasing. If anyone ever asks, Yraida, Max, Erwin, and Daira are the reasons I’ve achieved what I have so far, and are major contributors of any success I have in the future.
