We had the good fortune of connecting with Racquel Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Racquel, how do you think about risk?
My life was built on risks! I took a risk moving from Detroit to Atlanta with no job and about $300 in my pocket. Since then, I received my Bachelors and Masters Degree. I became a certified Neuromuscular Therapist and opened my own practice for 3 amazing years. In 2007 I married my best friend, had 2 kids and was laid off from the same company 3 times with severance (won’t he do it!). The last layoff I took a leap of faith and opened my online T-Shirt business and 4 years later I’m doing an interview with Shoutout Atlanta! This is what taking a risk did for my life and career and I wouldn’t change one moment of it.

What should our readers know about your business?
RocYourDesign LLC is a Minority Owned, online T-Shirt company. We specialize in custom T-Shirts for bridal parties, family reunions, professional and school organizations and anything in between. Our motto is, “Say what you Mean and Wear what you say!” This says it all and sets us apart from other T-Shirt design companies. We believe in expressing yourself and what better way to do it than on a Shirt. Speak loud without saying a word. I’m so excited because just recently we launched our latest division of the company, “If Walls Could Talk”! We create custom wall vinyl decor and pillows to accessorize your home. Every customer is their own designer. We just bring your design to life.

I have always hustled and got it honest from my parents and being a Detroit native. Its what Detroiters do, we hustle. So this is how I got to where I am today. I love expressing myself and I want others to be able to do the same. Even if it is on a T-shirt!
Over the last 4 years I’ve learned more about being a business owner. You can’t depend on others to keep you going or even to buy into your vision. You have to create your own path and work for it, hustle for it and you will WIN! I never let others deter me from my dreams and hopefully you will see RocYourDesign making T-Shirts for many years to come!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Chicken Wings so the first place on the itinerary is JR Crickets on South Cobb Drive specifically! They have the BEST flavored wings (South Cobb Way) with a super fun and laid back atmosphere, oh and the Moscow Mules are pretty good too. Because we like to shop, I would have to go up 400 to the Premium Outlets. Later we would catch some cool vibes at Ponce City Market and visit the Rooftop because I’ve never been! I heard it was a super cool location so this would be my opportunity to get out since I don’t have that luxury as much with a business and a family! Fun for me is sitting back with a cocktail and people watching. I always wonder where people are going, what they are doing and how they got there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is one of my biggest supporters and has given himself the title COO! He is always thinking of ideas and marketing strategies and wears many hats at RocYourDesign. My sons are also a huge support and never afraid to jump on the production line when those large orders come through!
