We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes/affirmations is, I am Unapologetically Blessed. I came from poverty and not having a father which led to not having a lot of privileges others may have had at a young age. I have been dreaming and working towards my dreams for a long time. Most of all, I have stayed committed to God and kept him as top priority after all these years. Everything I have and will have has come through faith, hard work, patience and God. For that reason, I am unapologetically blessed and not sorry for the blessings that come into my life and I encourage others not to be either. People see the glory but don’t really know your story.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have the pleasure of being a National Recording Artist who is passionate about singing and having the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the world. I count it a blessing and honor to sing for the Lord and help bring God’s peace, love, and joy to the world. Being myself and being passionate about what I do sets me apart from others. I am a woman of faith and a big dreamer. I dream BIG! If it’s something I know God has shown me, I stand confident in that and work towards it. As quitting is not an option. I have been able to stand in faith for my dreams, my family, and others. I am also a person that loves to give and I love people! All of these things are a part of just being myself and that sets me apart because no one can beat me at being me. I am most proud of my aim to make God proud. I am also proud of my husband and how he has stayed with me, through all that he has been through, he is still supportive and loving through the process of time. He is from the projects and lived a thuggish lifestyle but turned his life around by giving his life to the Lord. He has been committed to the Kingdom of God, leading God’s people ever since.
My journey has been far from easy. Many challenges have been birthed throughout my journey mainly because of my warped perception of how smooth things should go because I knew God called me. That was far from the truth. I have learned that just because God called me doesn’t mean it will be easy. I have been in this process for many years. I never thought it would take this long to see things start to level out in my singing career. I never thought I would be betrayed and rejected by people I know and loved. I overcame these obstacles by allowing them to make me stronger and use them to help others to never give up on their dreams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to live life and have good clean fun. I also love showing that southern hospitality to any visiting guests I have. If I had a best friend visiting the area and wanted to show them the best time ever I would start off with breakfast. I love breakfast and would make sure we have some great breakfast. I also love doing fun activities such as massages, pedicures, shopping, painting, bowling, etc. I also love to cook and would possibly cook them a good home cooked meal with my famous sweet potato pie or strawberry banana pudding.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my husband, Pastor Ronald Wilson. We have been married for 25 years and he has not only been a supportive husband but also a coach and mentor on my journey. My husband was the first person to take me to the studio to record my first song, “Happy” on cassette tape. I didn’t always appreciate his role as a mentor/coach in my career but as time went on I have learned to appreciate what God put in him, to help me become what I am today and what I will become in the future.
