We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Mcmullen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
There wasn’t a real thought process in starting my own business with Tits-N-Trout. I am already a self employed business owner in the remodeling and design industry in the ATL area. Starting my own fishing guide business began as a simple joke between friends and the more the idea generated excitement, the exposure created a sense of purpose towards this path in life. The need to explore how this can not only become a real profitable venture but also how I can help other women to break away from the comforts of everyday life and take on a new challenge/personal goal to learn how to fish and do it on their own became my objective. I began fishing solo after many losses and tragedies I suffered in a short period of time and to prove to myself that I can do anything a man can do if not better. I began my journey fishing by myself (while never touching a fish) for the sole purpose to teach myself the basics and learn everything I could about trout fishing, I decided to make it a legitimate business in order to see where the future could lead. In successfully accomplishing personal goals in my fishing experience, I decided to make TNT an official company and business to generate excitement and curiosity in more women to explore fishing adventures through guided trips with TNT. The desire to bring awareness to how therapuetic and healing nature and fishing can provide to anyone (men, women, children etc) was my main objective in the formation of Tits-n-Trout, LLC.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As the owner of Tits-N-Trout, I am the angler and fishing guide for half or full day guided fishing trips in the north Georgia mountains. While I prefer to cater towards women to gain more exposure and generate excitement in women, I also have been hired by men and families to go on fishing trips to my favorite spots. I am most proud of teaching myself everything I could from tying a knot and a hook to casting a rod and not getting my line stuck in tree limbs. I am most proud of the journey from not touching a fish or doing anything for myself without a man there to do it for me to becoming successful in fishing and catching some of the biggest fish I have ever caught since I started trout fishing back in 2019. After the formation of Tits-N-Trout, social media reels and videos were the first avenue however I felt it necessary to make and produce merchandize in order to sell for the purpose of generating and income and base platform for the company. All merchandise was made out of my garage with a Cricut and lots of labor and after hours long nights. the first festival I applied for as a merchant vendor, I was initially denied based on the name. After research on other organizations relating to women issues and breast cancer non profits, I provided a solid argument in why my company name should not be offensive but rather more of an awareness of the journey I am on and how other women could benefit from the same path. I have learned that a passion and obsession can also be very expensive and not profitable at times. I am fairly positive I have spent more in the last 4 years I have been in business than I have made but the loss now only will end up with a positive outcome as long as I continue to stay focused and never give up. I want the world to know that Tits-N-Trout, Llc is about exploring the therapeutic and healing journey that nature and trout fishing can provide. There has been nothing more rewarding than self learning and teaching and accomplishing each step of learning how to fish than what I have experienced in my own personal journey thus my desire to share with other women, men, or children that may want to get inspired by learning and teaching yourself how to fish. Its not about catching but rather the journey and challenge and fight to catch something and master each step in the journey towards greatness in becoming an avid angler. The unspoken truth behind titsntrout is a personal challenge to prove that I can do anything a man can or better and trying to prove that to myself and others every time I step out onto those waters.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My main guided trip that I take clients on starts and ends in the mountains of north Georgia. Depending on the area a client resides I will customize a trip based on the area and what rivers/streams are nearby. My favorite and most convenient day trip consists of meeting in downtown Clayton near Universal Joint (my favorite restaurant/bar to go to before during or after fishing) Then my clients will either follow me or if comfortable ride with me. In no actual order I will explore the Tallulah River off Tallulah River Road near Lake Burton, After hitting my favorite holes/fishing spots (can’t disclose this for obvious reasons) I then will head back towards Clayton with maybe a stop for a quick app or bite/drink at Lake Burton Cafe and then head towards Warwoman Road. Heading West of Clayton on Warwoman I will take clients to Warwoman Creek, West Fork Chatooga and Sarahs Creek time permitted. If guided trips are during trout stocking season I will watch the stocking reports from DNR and cater the guided trip to those areas that will produce the best results in catching trout for either beginners and/or experienced anglers who haven’t fished the rivers/mountains of north Georgia. I will then head back to Clayton for either dinner/lunch etc at UJ and encourage them to visit Outdoor 76 across the street. It is my favorite outfitter company and they have the best and most comfortable t shirts and you can even sip on a craft beer while you shop for all your hiking and outdoors needs.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes out to my father, Robert McMullen. The formation of Tits-N-Trout, Llc began after losing my father during Covid. Finding out after his passing that he loved trout fishing and discovering old photos and fishing clothes fueled my drive and passion to honor his memory and connect with him while out on the mountain rivers and streams.
