We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel C. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?

Two things actually come up. 1. Reiki is not a religion. It is a tool to help cultivate deep healing from within. Which sounds really woo-woo or far-fetched or maybe even impossible.

2. Reiki is not a cure. Having one Reiki session is not going to fix everything. Reiki works with you for your greatest and highest good.

That looks different for all of us. It looks different for each of us each day. I would say humans are really working through a lot of healing from our past. We are searching for our inner strength to come out, to find ways to stay grounded, and to cultivate self love. All of that is a process. It can’t happen in one Reiki session.

This process is worth taking the time to learn how to come to terms with our past, to love yourself in the present, and to have hope for our future.

What should our readers know about your business?

What I’m learning is, it took a community to get me to where I am today and it’s going to take a community to help me expand. Even though I’m an independent business owner, I still need to step out of my comfort zone and partner with other independent business owners in the community. I need to plan events and to do outreach. As helpful as social media is, you can’t beat face-to-face interaction with people. That is priceless. In the coming years, this year included, I am going to work on stepping out of my comfort zone, to ask for help, to make opportunities happen through partnerships with other like-minded people in the community.

With that said I also make Mala Prayer Beads and Energize them with Reiki. This year there is an option on my Etsy page to Custom Order a Mala. We would work together to design a Mala for you to use during your daily practice. This is one way I’m stretching myself and working with others. I might be working with you, the reader, in the near future!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I used to be a concierge here in Atlanta, so I can find really cool places. But my personal taste is more focused on good food and being outdoors.

Though if my friend wanted some Live Jazz Music I’d take them to Blind Willie’s off North Highland Avenue Northeast. They have great bands playing Wednesday-Sunday. Sometimes you can find people swing dancing. They also have strong drinks and great southern go to options on their food menu.
Also another cool experience on the same block is Dark Horse Tavern. The street level is a bar & restaurant. The experience is coming after 10pm when the basement opens up for Live Band Karaoke.

Now I love Pho soup and Sushi so I will be taking my friends to either Anh’s Kitchen for Pho, Wagaya, or Shoya Izakaya for Sushi. If we go to Shoya I’ll then take them to get a Boba Milk Tea at Tea Top. And if any of my friends wanted to try the Karaoke Bar on the second floor of this shopping center, I’d be down to check it out. *wink wink, cough cough. Let’s have a karaoke night out local friends!

Anyhow, if the weather is nice I’d have my friend and I drive up to Arabia Mountain, only if it was a weekday though. On the weekends the parking lot is too small and fills up quick! I love this area. There are lots of walking and bike trails. There might be a lot of cars but you don’t run into a lot of people. It feels like you’ve found your own slice of paradise. Well that’s how it makes me feel.

But most likely if I had friends visiting we’d stay at my place and my wife & I would cook up a mean spread. Lucky them!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

Where to begin? My life has just been a ripple effect of blessings and magical people.

To start, Mary Kay used to be an esthetician and massage therapist at a spa I worked at. She is also a Reiki practitioner. She gave me my first Reiki session and showed me how powerful this practice is. At that time I had just lost my mother to cancer and was dealing with a lot of grief and anger. Reiki helped me move through all of that.

Then I had a friend Maureen, whose husband worked for the company that manages Colony Square here in Atlanta. I got a job there and helped with one of their events, Yoga on the Square.

Which connected me to Shelly from Dancing Dogs yoga studio, who then introduced me to Danielle Hall from SoundEmbrace. Danielle is also a Reiki practitioner and an empath. She reinforced that I should look into Reiki.

Which then led me to Michal Spiegelman from Beacons of Change, where I got my training and attunement from in 2020. Fast forward two years now I am working with Michal as a Beacons of Change team member.

And last but not least, because of all the healing I’ve been doing with Reiki, I became ready to fall in love. My friend Laura made me get on a dating App where I found Rosario, who is now my wife. Because of Rosario’s support I was able to leave my 9 to 5 job and pursue my own Reiki business full time! It really did take a village/a community to help me get where I am today. And to all my patch quilt family, life long friends, thank you for all your love on the good days and most importantly on those hard days too.
