We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Burger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I ever had to make was moving 8 hours away to go to my dream college after my father was diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an award winning Interior Designer who has been quoted in magazines such as Architectural Digest, Vogue Living Australia, LivingETC, and the Hunker. One of the proudest moments in my career, thus far, is being in the 2024 NKBA class of 30 under 30. My career was not always like this though. While finishing up my senior year of college, I was rocked with the death of my father and COVID. I got furloughed from my internship and began to feel lost in my design career. After months of stillness and grief, I picked up a job at a local furniture store as an Interior Designer where I helped all of the sales people with furniture plans and ordering. Although I knew that was not what I wanted to do, I am grateful for the growth and knowledge it gave me. After transitioning out of the furniture world, I found JL Design. JL Design has been the turning point in my career. My boss, Jessica Davis, took the chance on me and it has been one of the best things that has happened to me. My advice to young professionals would be, follow your dreams. Life will throw us curve balls, but your journey is special so walk it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my bestfriend was visiting town I would take her to drink at Tiger Bar or Le Loup. If she was hungry we would go to Present Tense, Cityhouse, Bar Taco, or Noko. If we were looking to hangout somewhere I would take her to downtown Franklin, Shelby Park, and any kind of sexy wine bar.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my boss, Jessica Davis, as she has given me the opportunity to grow, and succeed within her design firm. I would also like to give credit to my parents, especially my mom, for giving me the space to follow my dreams.
