We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Bowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Video is a powerful tool; the filming process captures reality in a way that nothing else can. This tool can be used in a multitude of ways. Whether you’re telling your story, asking for support of a noble cause, or sharing information about a business or product, you can communicate with your audience in way that’s both effective and moving. Video can also preserve memories of an important event in your life so that you can relive them over and over for years to come (and share them with others!).

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hey y’all! I’m Rachel and I’m a videographer in Atlanta, GA. For the majority of my life, video has been my passion. Thanks to some truly talented teachers and role models, I have been able to learn, practice, and strengthen my skills in this field. When I started seeing the joy my videos bring to others, I decided to begin my own production company and name it Palmetto Films in honor of my home state of South Carolina! My husband, Kenny, is also a huge part of this company; he is often my second shooter and helps with the financial side of our business. The mission of Palmetto Films is to create videos that are both beautiful and authentic. My goal is to provide you with videos that reflect your unique personality and style in every way possible. With the help of my assistants and the unwavering support of my friends and family, I am able to shoot, edit, and create videos that highlight all the wonderful things in life that mean the most to you. The number one lesson I’ve learned when starting my own business is to never simply “follow the money.” I do my absolute best to work with clients whose goals and values align similarly with my own. I don’t take on projects to only get paid; I also want to create something meaningful and impactful for my clients.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of the reasons I was so excited to move to Atlanta is that is has a little of everything! I would start the trip with a walk or bike ride down the Beltline to admire all the unique artwork (and then check out the local creators at the Krog St Market or Ponce City Market). I would also spend a day enjoying the small-town feel of downtown Roswell with all their amazing restaurants and breweries. Another day would be dedicated to traveling about an hour outside the city to hike in the mountains (and get a glass of wine at a vineyard at the end of the day!). I would end the trip with brunch at Little Rey in Midtown because it’s my favorite brunch spot around – you’ll never find better hotcakes anywhere!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to thank my husband for never doubting my abilities and always encouraging me to take on projects (even if they scare me!). Also, a big thank-you to my very first clients who took a chance on me when I was just starting out and trusted me to create something amazing for them. Finally, thank you to my family and friends who always watch my work and help me share it with the world!
