We had the good fortune of connecting with Quintin Bostic, Ph.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quintin, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my personal and brand success would have to be keeping love, joy, and positive working relationships first. As a program developer, I have had the opportunity to work in a wide range of settings ranging from large corporations to start up non-profits. One of the biggest reasons why my partners say that they continuously come back to work with me is because I bring so much joy to the workplace. It is important to foster a work culture on relationship building and community. Relationships are the foundation for all success. Without positive working relationships, there is a greater chance for failure. Joy in the workplace is about being intricately connected with who you are, what you do, and why you do it. As a program developer, when I can make these connections with my partners, the possibilities are limitless.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career journey has not been easy, but it has made me the successful person that I am today. I honestly never saw myself being a program developer, but here I am – thriving. I have a background in education and have always enjoyed teaching. After several years of being in the classroom, I decided to make a shift into adult learning and training. After several years of working in training, I made another shift into instruction design. I loved it. I remember one day sitting down at my computer while designing a course for the company I worked for at that time and thinking to myself, “I love doing this work for my job, but I really could be doing direct consulting.” After several weeks of debating, I decided to start reaching out to different organizations in the community offering my services. After receiving my 5th partnership contract, I decided to step away from my full-time job and start consulting full-time. One of the biggest challenges that I had to overcome was the fear of failure. It can be scary to leave a secure job that you are comfortable in to start your own business, but I always remind myself of this quote from Oprah Winfrey – “Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.” To step into my greatness, I had to be willing to fail over and over again. The biggest lesson I learned is that failure is a part of the process. You must remember to keep picking yourself back up. I want the world to know that my work and my brand are grounded in love, experience, and truth. I pride myself on developing programs that educate, inspire, and empower. I love to help organizations cultivate spaces where their ideas, goals, and objectives can come to fruition and thrive.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question! I would take my friend to places where we could have fun, eat well, and learn about the history of Atlanta. Our mornings would start with some of my favorite brunch spots in the city that include Breakfast at Barney’s, Atlanta Breakfast Club, The Breakfast Boys, Ms. Icey’s Kitchen, and Milk & Honey. For our daytime adventures, we would visit The Battery, Your 3rd Spot, The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the High Museum, and Ponce City Market. For our evening, I would take my friend to The James Room, Fellaship, Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar, Buckhead Village District, and JoJo’s Beloved Cocktail Bar.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This shoutout is dedicated to my tribe, my village, and my ancestors. My family and friends have been pivotal in my career. I have experienced many highs and lows in my journey that have taken a toll on my mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. In times of darkness, I have always been able to lean on my family and friends. Also, understanding the trials, tribulations, and histories of my ancestors has helped me to become wiser. There is so much that we can learn from the past. By studying history, I have been able to understand and successfully handle complex situations. This is why this shoutout is dedicated to my people – those who are with me physically and those who are with me spiritually.
