We had the good fortune of connecting with Quincy Ellis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quincy, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing that often surprises people outside of the photography and video production world is the extensive amount of behind-the-scenes work and preparation that goes into each client project. Capturing seemingly effortless, high-quality imagery and footage requires a tremendous amount of planning, technical expertise, and logistical coordination.

From scouting and securing ideal shooting locations, to meticulously curating equipment and lighting setups, to coordinating talent and schedules – there’s a significant amount of work that happens long before the camera ever starts rolling. And that’s all before the intensive post-production process of editing, color grading, audio mixing, and finalizing the deliverables.

I think many people assume that professional photographers and videographers simply show up, take a few shots, and call it a day. In reality, we invest a huge amount of time and effort into ensuring each project is executed flawlessly and aligns perfectly with the client’s vision. It’s a highly collaborative, detail-oriented process that requires a diverse skill set beyond just the ability to operate a camera.

On top of all that, models also have to be savvy business people, constantly networking, negotiating contracts, and building their personal brand. It’s not enough to just have the right look – models have to be able to market themselves effectively and create opportunities for continued work.

So while the end result may seem effortless, the reality is that modeling requires an incredible amount of dedication, discipline, resilience, and business acumen. It’s a career that demands much more than just being physically attractive. The true superstars in this industry are the ones who can handle all of those demands.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

As both a model and videographer, I’ve had the opportunity to explore the creative arts from a few different angles. What really sets me apart is the synergy between those two passions and skill sets.

On the modeling side, I’m most proud of the way I’ve been able to use my platform to champion more diverse and inclusive representation in the fashion industry. Through persistence and unapologetic self-confidence, I’ve been able to carve out a successful modeling career while also using my visibility to advocate for greater diversity.

The world of videography has allowed me to express that same mission in a different medium. I’m incredibly excited about the short films and branded content I’ve had the opportunity to create, which highlight underrepresented communities and shine a light on important social issues. My favorite projects are the ones that blend compelling visuals with authentic, empowering storytelling. It’s so fulfilling to use the power of video to uplift marginalized voices and challenge the status quo.

Professionally, I didn’t have a straightforward path to get to where I am today. There have been plenty of ups and downs. But I’ve learned that resilience, authenticity, and a commitment to continuous growth are key. I’ve had to develop a thick skin, push myself outside my comfort zone, and constantly refine my craft. And I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to have mentors and supporters who have believed in me and helped open doors.

At the end of the day, I want the world to know that I’m a multifaceted creative who is passionate about using my art to make a positive impact. My goal is to inspire others & challenge societal norms. I’m excited to keep evolving, learning, and sharing my unique talents and perspective with the world.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have so many people I want to give a shoutout to for the role they’ve played in my journey in the video production and modeling industries. First and foremost, I have to acknowledge my incredible parents. They’ve been my biggest support system from day one, supporting my creative passions even when the path wasn’t always clear. Their unwavering belief in me, and the way they’ve encouraged me to pursue my dreams, has meant the world.

I also have to give a huge shoutout to my close-knit group of friends. They’ve been there for me through all the ups and downs, celebrating my successes and being there for me when I’ve faced challenges. Their feedback, advice, and moral support have been invaluable. I’m so grateful to have that solid network of people in my corner.

Finally, I have to give a special shoutout to the crews I’ve had the privilege of working with on video productions over the years. The collaborative energy, creativity, and camaraderie of those teams have been such an important part of my growth and fulfillment in this industry.
