We had the good fortune of connecting with Quannesia Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quannesia, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about the word risk, I think of the word strength. How far can I go, with what I’ve learned in life so far? Of all the lessons I’ve had previously, how can they now be applied? People hear ‘risk’ and immediately become afraid. One, because we’re human and our natural instinct is to protect ourselves from harm by all costs. However, the other reason is because we don’t really trust that we’ll be able to apply the lessons learned. We go through life and encounter adversity, with the thought that, “It’ll get better.” and “There’s light at the end of the tunnel”. But it’s hardly ever discussed what we retain during those plights. We’re just happy that it’s over. Risk just means, I am aware of the difficulties that come with making certain decisions. Yet, I’m not deterred. In business, more specifically entrepreneurship, risk is taken every day. Each day you wake up and decide to operate your own business is a risk. Taking on full responsibility and being liable for the ups as well as the downs. That’s a risk. But it’s a risk I enjoy taking. The risk allows for freedom. Which is ultimately what we all want at the end of the day. The ability to live life on our own terms.
What should our readers know about your business?
Working Queens Financial Solutions is a business that started in 2018. At first, it was something that I had only considered doing part-time for close friends and family. However, in 2019 I decided to go full time with it. I desire to help as many women and men, become financially free and literate. While also educating these individuals on how to remain stable and break poor spending habits. Growing up, I was not taught much about credit or how it could and would affect me long term. I was only told to “Save for a rainy day.”That still did not teach me the importance of financial literacy. So, of course, I learned the hard way, as soon as I turned 18, I applied for 3 major credit cards and maxed them all out. My credit was shot before I had even turned 19. I would need a cosigner for just about everything until I turned 22. Things began to turn around and one would think I’d learn my lesson, but I had not. I continued to repeat my poor spending habits until around the age of 26 (2016). At this age, I decided I wanted better and that my children deserved better. I started to work on my credit and would soon begin reaping the benefits of instant approvals and no money down. Today, I work to ensure that my clients can enjoy those same luxuries. As a client of mine, not only will I work to get delinquent marks removed from your reports (legally), I will also provide you with tools to assist with future decisions you make regarding your credit.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh gosh! So many places to visit in the area. I particularly love lounges. There’s Lily’s, Boogaloo and Mirza. Nouveau, Roc South, 5Church, Pasha and Two Urban Licks to eat and vibe. For activities and drinks, Ponce City Market is great. There’s Punchbowl Social, Sky View Atlanta, MLK Historical Park, GA Aquarium and Top Golf. The list is endless really. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could write a book on those that have inspired me throughout life, up to this very moment. My children and my fiancé have absolutely been my continuous support system. But to call attention more specifically to a few, I’ll start with my mother. She is one of the first, that I’ve witnessed take risks. She may not view it as major one’s but seeing the risks being taken and the ability to adjust to any adversity was always admired. There’s my older sister, Shavannah, who has always been a risk taker and I’ve been blessed to be able to witness it first hand. And last, but certainly not least, my brother Dan started his own company a few years ago. Watching him care for his family and run a business has been admirable to me from the start. I have my friends who motivate me daily, associates that tell me I inspire them. Even strangers that I look up to that keep me going.
