We had the good fortune of connecting with QingRey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi QingRey, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
What a lot of people don’t know is I actually have cyclothymic disorder which is kind of like the pre-stages to bipolar and music helps a lot when it comes to expressing myself, so that’s kind of why I picked a creative career. I want to help individuals who have disorders, people who struggle mentally with things, as well as individuals who have a hard time expressing themselves. I want them learn to put those thoughts and emotions on paper and create art by telling theirs and others stories. Also I chose this career path to show my younger siblings that no matter what you can always accomplish your goals and dreams.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
So a big thing that sets me apart from others is that I have a disorder which I openly express and talk about in music. Also I’m an ex pro athlete. I was on the bobsled team for team USA. So where I’m at today has not been an easy journey, with trials and tribulations in my personal life as well as in the music world. I’ve definitely learned a lot and learned how to properly maneuver myself and I’m still learning. Some of the lessons that I’ve learned are that you can not wait on anybody, you have to want it for yourself. After you have the drive then come up with a plan then execute. The 5 P’s. Something else I’ve learned is that happiness is within. Happiness isn’t materialistic which we all know but in this society we can barely tell you what makes us happy thats free. Everything doesn’t revolve around money, but you need it to survive, so make sure whatever work you’re doing makes you money and you’re happy. Another lesson is that people will always have something to say and judge you for being you, but don’t let that stop you. I speak in my music about dumping negativity and bringing positivity. I believe that’s something the world needs and a lot more love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m really a big foodie so I like to try different spots. One of my favorite things to get in Atlanta is the mango chicken from Food Terminal. My favorite wing spot is The Bando. And for dessert Roll It Up Ice Cream. Some of the most exciting and interesting individuals have to be M.A.B. Squad which is created and ran by Merritt Blanks Jr. They are all super dope artist and creatives who have come together to impact people lives. A great place for me personally is Right Vibe Recording Studios. When I’m there I feel right at home.
