We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Latson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscilla, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Having dedicated approximately 15 years to the childcare industry, I’ve held various roles, covering every aspect except ownership, as that was never my aspiration. My journey has encompassed positions ranging from assistant teacher, cook, and bus driver to spending the last decade as a Director, including overseeing multiple sites. Throughout, my primary objective has consistently been what’s best for the child. I firmly believe that every child and family deserve a high-quality experience — one characterized by attention to detail, personalization, and the establishment of trustful relationships.
While serving as a Director, I successfully provided my students and their families with a positive experience. However, I recognized the potential for improvement. The challenge was determining how to elevate the experience while managing my existing workload. These realizations, coupled with my motto of empowering childcare one service at a time, motivated me to establish my own company. Despite my love for this industry and a deep belief in my purpose within it, burnout was becoming a concern. To address this, I innovatively devised a system to handle Director duties offsite. This venture allows individuals passionate about direct childcare to focus on delivering excellent programs within the center, while I concentrate on the often-neglected front office tasks.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Scaffold Enterprises is a venture inspired by a profound passion for the childcare industry and a commitment to elevating the standards of early childhood education. Our unique approach, providing offsite Director duties, allows dedicated individuals within childcare centers to focus on delivering top-notch programs. Our distinctiveness lies in the careful balance of attention to detail, personalization, and the efficient administrative support we offer. The motto, “empowering childcare one service at a time,” encapsulates our dedication to enhancing the childcare experience.
The name “Scaffold” is deeply rooted in the teachings of the behaviorist theorist Vygotsky, specifically in his Zone of Proximal Development theory. Much like an actual scaffold that holds a building together during construction or repair, we aspire to play a similar role for childcare centers. Our mission is to provide the necessary support and structure, empowering centers to reach their full potential. This concept is embedded in our business philosophy, serving as a guiding principle in our commitment to assisting childcare professionals.
The journey to where Scaffold Enterprises stands today was not without its challenges. Recognizing the need for innovation during my tenure as a Director, the company was founded to address industry needs while actively combating burnout. Overcoming challenges required strategic thinking and a commitment to finding solutions beneficial to both childcare professionals and the children they serve. Our story emphasizes the lessons learned – resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering passion for our mission.
At Scaffold Enterprises, we are more than service providers; we are advocates for an improved childcare experience. We want the world to know that our name reflects a commitment to supporting childcare centers in their growth and development, much like the scaffolding that supports a building under construction. By empowering those within the center to focus on their strengths, we contribute to the creation of nurturing environments that truly make a difference in the lives of young learners.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to express my gratitude to a few individuals who have significantly contributed to my development and success throughout my career journey. Firstly, a heartfelt shoutout to my mom for encouraging and supporting my move to GA. Next, immense thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Jordan, Owners of Eden Childcare in Melrose Park, IL. Working at Eden Childcare marked my first experience in a childcare center, and both Mr. and Mrs. Jordan played a pivotal role in challenging and pushing me beyond my comfort zone. Mr. Jordan’s unique perspective always had me approaching situations differently, always telling me to “think.”
Another individual I want to acknowledge is Shana Isaac, the owner of Toddler University. Shana provided me with opportunities to learn and grow, even though becoming a childcare center Director wasn’t initially in my plans. She encouraged me to give it a year, and that year turned into a fulfilling seven years of growth and experience as her Director. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to my “make it make sense” friends, Dee Dee, Kayla, and Angelique. These incredible women have been my pillars of support, providing unconditional support mentally, emotionally, and even financially. I have never experienced such unwavering backing as I have with them.
