Meet Precious Settles | Wife| Mother |Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Precious Settles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Precious, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
I define success as the ability to help another person’s knowledge increase. I believe that knowledge is power and that when you know something you are better prepared to handle situations, have a better adaptability to change, and can expand your knowledge to endless growths and other opportunities. As a mother, wife, and entrepreneur, I like to think that the more you know, the more you grow. I speak words of encouragement, power, and strength to those I encounter to remind them that nothing is impossible and that they have what it takes, just have to try and give it their best. Being a leader and seeing the growth and development of my family and peers, is truly rewarding; success for me is knowing I’ve helped someone or that I’ve left a good impression on them.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I went from working a full-time job being a 911 dispatcher, enjoying my job, but struggling to have a balanced personal life given the work schedule. I’m now a part of the Destiny National Tax team as the Executive Assistant under CEO Destiny Baquet and help run the business and train others aspiring to become a tax professional. Becoming a tax professional has not always been easy with trying to find the right work and personal life balance, often times it’s late nights early mornings for me whether taking care of home or working, so trying to have time for myself and time with others have been a challenge. I can get so caught up working at times. I’ve had to learn to stick to my schedule to avoid being burned out. With being an entrepreneur and self-employed, it’s so hard to not always feel as though you can be doing something to better your business. I try to do everything for everybody right when they need it, so I’ve had to learn to say no at times and realize that it is okay. This life is challenging, but even more fulfilling when you see the fruits of your labor. No matter what industry or profession, keep going!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to go to Top Golf. It’s nice for all ages and a fun, open environment, same as Andretti’s. I’d go to Jeju Spa for some relaxation and Perimeter Mall afterwards to shop. If wanted to catch a movie and eat at the same time may go to Studio Grill or AMC Phipps Plaza. We’d definitely hit the Beltline and ride bikes around Atlanta to get some fitness in or do yoga at Piedmont Park. We would likely discover a new place to eat together or go to Breakfast at Barneys. Also, would go to Paint Sip Socialize in Decatur to touch into our creative minds and hang out at The Basement right beside it afterwards.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be an entrepreneur if it wasn’t for Destiny Baquet of Destiny National Tax. Working with her over the last few years, I have learned so much about not only being a Tax Professional, but also about how it’s endless opportunities for growth and expansion, you just have to put in the time and dedication, even when it doesn’t look as though it’s paying off. She is so giving and a joy to be around and I’m forever grateful for the path she has paved for me.
My husband and our four children, all boys, definitely deserve recognition. My husband is supportive of my career and continues to work hard so that we are taken care of so that I can focus on my career. Both my husband and our boys are very understanding that I may not always be available to them as much as they would like me to be. They all try to help me with my clients and other things. They help me stay focus and keep me motivated to make sure I don’t give up. They are my everything.
My parents, best friend, Salena Coley, and other peers, including those above, are the ultimate support system. They help me with my children, always motivates me, and keeps me driven. There’s times that I have been unsure about my career path and they have always spoke words of wisdom, encouragement, and life into myself and anything I’m a part of. The love and respect I have for all of these people is endless.
