Meet Precious Osuji | Creative Leader

We had the good fortune of connecting with Precious Osuji and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Precious, how do you think about risk?
I love this question. What good is it to not take risks? Why not, when in this ever changing world, you can dare to be different. I believe taking risks is an essential part of business for one core reason. The more of a risk taker you set out to be, the more of a believer you begin to become. Being a risk taker helps one embody their own trust in one self and allows for the guidance of their intuition. It helps one measure their good or bad judgement. Risk takers are the ones who understand that there are infinite ways of doing things, and that these ways are truly just waiting to be paved. Sometimes the desired or the attained outcome can only be achieved by risk. So you have to go for it in life, you have to be daring and you must be willing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Makeup became my way to freedom. Makeup bred me into the artist that I was always born to be. It taught me the importance the value of time. Doing makeup on a client takes me a little under one hour, and so after a while some amazing things started happening. For one, I was getting paid more in a less amount of time due to the skill I had. That opened my eyes to the fact and the possibilities of acquiring more skills that were available for me. This got me into doing more of the things I loved. And realize, how much easier they had become! I began creating portraits of individuals, both painting and sketches. I was quickly surprised by my abilities though they were of course amateur. I fell in love with photography, both capturing images and working with photographer friends. I began making small sculptures. Making architectural designs out of tree branches from my backyard. I unlocked incredible culinary abilities. I got more creative in business. Makeup artistry was truly my one way ticket to artistic freedom of expression in all forms.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We taking them down to the A, baby. Downtown Atlanta is popping. I always preferred Georgia over New York because there’s more trees. The oxygen is better. And it’s not too fast paced but it’s not slow at all. Let’s start with food, breakfast we will be at the one and only Breakfast at Barney’s, and on our second day when we don’t want to be too boujee, we will be at Waffle House for sure. For dinner, we’re eating at the best Asian fusion spot in the A, Poor Calvin’s. We’d go there both nights because that’s just how good the food is. For activities we would of course do a photoshoot, because I don’t take a trip without working! My top 3 photographers out in the area we would work with will be the amazing 1. @alexandra_zak and 2. @chuckrare and 3. @rarifilmz . We would hit up the Mercedes Benz arena and make good connections. Georgia has plentiful museums full of historical and contemporary art. As long as you’re in good company, you will have a great time in Atlanta.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I thank my dear friends and family all across New Jersey who have been a large help in the building of my makeup platform and who I credit for establishing me as a makeup artist. I thank all of my photographers friends, special shout-out to OjayVisuals, DVX Global, Terrance Hamilton, Ty Chee Visuals, and Jaya Vemuri who have spent countless hours creating with me, trusting in my vision, and allowing me sometimes to play the leadership role. I thank my Pilates instructor and model-muse Yveline Dossous for helping me with my confidence and being a strong support. I thank all of my beautiful clients and muses who are always willing to be apart of my projects.
