We had the good fortune of connecting with Praysha Spearman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Praysha, every day, we talk about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Renew Therapy wasn’t actually my idea at first. I was introduced to the idea by another therapist who suggested that I begin a private practice. The name “Renew Therapy” was a by-product of my middle name, Renee. One of my best friends suggested that I call my private practice Renew Therapy. Honestly, I just couldn’t come up with a better name. That was back in 2017. At that time, I was working three part-time jobs, and I was completely stretched thin. Over the next three years, my job situations would change, but my feelings of overwhelm with work did not change. I had to figure something out. It got to a point where financial security was no longer a good excuse for staying where I was, and I decided to turn in my resignation. In March of 2021, I finally became a full-time entrepreneur.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

My practice is unique because I am not like therapists I have heard of, who focus more on themselves than the client. I am an expert in facilitating change according to my client’s goals. We collaborate together. I know what kinds of questions to ask to direct conversation in an emotionally safe way. I know how to work with trauma so the client can become unstuck from it, and can work through it. Renew Therapy is not just a business for me. It is a vehicle that I believe is connected to my purpose in life. My greatest reward is working with clients, and seeing the positive impact therapy has on their lives. That is what gets me through all the challenges I’ve faced. I love the work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in Georgia my entire life. My favorite thing to do in this area is to visit places I have never been before, and to gather with loved ones. I’ve enjoyed playing cornhole outside SmokeJack Barbeque in Alpharetta; created a customizable milkshake at ColdStone Creamery- Oreo Birthday Cake is always delicious; enjoyed PunchBowl Social for a small karaoke and game night; and I have also enjoyed dancing with a live band at The Painted Duck in Atlanta. Fun, lighthearted, interactive places where I can create new memories seem to make the biggest impression on me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father, Bobby Malone, deserves a shout out. He has been an entrepreneur in Metro-Atlanta for over 20 years. He just started franchising within the last few years. I owe a lot of my courage to him.
