We had the good fortune of connecting with Posey Parks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Posey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always wanted to be my own boss. Writing was my passion. How could I take what I love and turn it into a business? I got online and engaged with romance readers in the romance community, showcasing sample chapters from my manuscripts. I completed my first book and my author career flourished. One important takeaway from my college years taught me the importance of building a strong and recognizable brand. This knowledge has stayed with me ever since.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My name is Shantee’ A Parks. I write under the pen name Posey Parks. I am a USA Today bestselling author. I am a romance author and owner of Posey Parks Publishing. I wanted my work to appear under my imprint. That’s why I created my publishing company. The world I built for my characters sets me apart. Mostly all of my characters crossover between my books. I created an assassins world and a mafia world. And brought the two together. Readers love a world they can immerse themselves in. I feel I’ve created that for them. During my eight year writing journey I’ve published thirty-nine books. I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

There were ups and downs along the way. As a new author I had to find book cover designers myself. When I reached out to authors they wouldn’t share who created their book covers.

I worked a full-time job and wrote books on the side. I woke up at three in the morning so that I could write before I went to work. Many nights I went to bed late preparing a book for release. While at my corporate job I released twelve books. In 2018 my department closed. Instead of looking for another job I felt it was time to become a full-time author. With the support of my family I was able to work for myself and take my brand to the next level. Creating Facebook, Amazon ads, and TikTok videos put my books in front of more readers. Investing in myself over the years is what helped my brand grow.

Lessons learned don’t trust everyone who claims they can help your business grow. I’m often approached by marketers. They offer space on their websites. They say they can provide my books more visibility. It isn’t true. I learned the hard way when I first started my author career. As an entrepreneur it’s your responsibility to research companies.

I want the world to know author Posey Parks delivers hot romantic suspense. Hard work and dedication helped me gain success. Recently I joined Patreon and have gained subscribers/super fans who devour my stories. Next, I’m looking into Kickstarter to help fund audiobook projects. I’m always looking for ways to grow my business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My best friend and I would have a week filled with wonderful activities. Monday- We’d start our week eating breakfast at Atlanta Bread Company.
We’d head to The Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta in Woodstock for some light shopping.
Lunch at the Yard House at Atlantic Station.
Tuesday- A Braves game at The Battery.
Dinner at Superica, a beautiful Tex-mex restaurant. The cuisine is delicious.
Wednesday- Breakfast at The Flying Biscuit.
Lunch at The Vortex Bar & Grill. We’d take pictures at the Outkast mural.
That evening we’d enjoy an outing at Topgolf, a popular golf entertainment complex in Atlanta.

Thursday- She’d have to try the southern comfort food at Mary Mac’s Tea Room. After dinner, we’d relax at Paint Sip Socialize.

Friday afternoon- We’d live life on the edge at IFly Skydiving.

Friday evening- The Roof at Ponce City Market would be a wonderful atmosphere to hang out and play various games.
Saturday- We’d enjoy the Farmers Market in Marietta Square. Lunch at Slutty Vegan is a must. Can’t let my bestie leave town without trying their wonderful vegan cuisine.

Sip & Skate at Cascades Skating Rink would be the perfect way to end our week of activities. We’d boast about these memories for years to come.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Greg Parks. He remembered that I love to write. He encouraged me to follow my dreams.
