We had the good fortune of connecting with PorterStoutBeerGod and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PorterStoutBeerGod, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always watched Anthony Bourdain and I loved the foods and beer that he ate around the world. During the pandemic I would always think,” I wish I had that job.”

I realized I needed to stop using the word want. So, I decided to make my hobby my business and it was the best decision that I ever made!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My tour offers a small and intimate taste of a variety of cultures of food in the Atlanta area. The relationships that I have made with head brewers gives novice or experienced beer drinkers a personal experience like no other.

I am most excited about the future. My guests leave wanting to bring others back to the tour. When I hear people say things like,” I would have never thought that I would eat food from Laos”. It makes me excited because I am helping to be a bridge to different cultures.

Starting my business was easy, because it is based on my lifestyle. What we do on my tours is what I do all the time, eating great food and drinking great beer! The lessons I’ve learned along the way is to stay in my lane, there is no traffic.

I want the world to know that the unique things that you like may be your calling for your business. If you’re not doing what you love everyday, then what are you really doing ?

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I will start my kick off at Trigos, for the best Colombian food in Atlanta. My next stop would be Tiger K Cup Bob, for some tasty Korean street food. I would also go to Da One Roti Shop, tasting Trinidad’s famous Aloo pie and doubles. One of my unique places, Snackbox Bistro, gives guests a taste of Lao street food. Finally, Mascagos Tacos, for top notch Mexican food.

When we go to drink I would go to Orpheus Brewing first, for some mouth-watering stouts. Next we will cruise to Three Taverns and continue the fun. Another one of my favorite spots is Outrun Brewing Company, where we can relax and sip as well. Akademia Brewing is also one of my favorite spots, when I want to get outside of the city and have some great beer .

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and uncle deserve the credit in my story. My mom, because she is all about foods from other cultures. She is always trying new spices from different countries around the world. She looks on TV for other countries, and what they use to give them such unique flavor. She would then come back home and use those flavors in our meals.

My late Uncle Emmanuel is also deserves credit. He died of covid in 2020, that’s when I decided that life is too short, why not take a chance?

They are my inspiration behind the food and beer tours. My daughters will inherit this business so shout out to my loves!
