We had the good fortune of connecting with Porcia Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Porcia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Take risks all day, everyday. There are many possible outcome to a single action, so always take a chance and try something new. I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t break the norm that was keeping me super comfortable.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a DJ, pretty new to the scene, but I have had some great accomplishments within my first year — one of them was DJing for the Soul in the Horn: Global Vibrations live-stream. I’ve wanted to DJ since 2012, but I never sat down and dedicated myself to the craft. I moved to LA in 2016, while I delved into the after hours/club scene — discovering so much music that I started to dig for more and new. When I moved back to Brooklyn, I fell into the house scene and continued that search for music that made me feel + move. If I would’ve started playing music in 2012, it would’ve been totally different from the sound and energy that I produce when I play now. The years that I spent being a dancer and observer in the club are absolutely paying off. I can’t wait to rock out in warehouses and festivals. Special things take time and patience.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll give a little weekend itinerary. My best friend and I usually party when we’re away — whenever she’s at my crib, we chilling lol — it’s the best time ever.

Back to the crib for some wine and movies, girl talk

Saturday AM:
Morning yoga with Jyll at Urban Asanas (it’s black woman owned!)
Brunch at Cafe Rue Dix (also black owned!)
Home to nap/relax
Dinner at Saraghina
Drinks and party at Nowadays

Sunday AM:
Noon brunch — somewhere bottomless
Broadway Matinee
Dinner at CiSiamo
Send off!
