We had the good fortune of connecting with PongoFromTheS and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PongoFromTheS, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As far as I can recall, music always been in my life. I wrote my first song when I was 8 years old (in french). But it’s in 2015 that music really became everything to me. After tearing my ACL and MCL at the same time while playing soccer, at that time I wanted to become a professional soccer player, I came to realization that I wasn’t really playing for myself but for my father. The time spent off the grass made me rediscover my first love, music. Since then I haven’t been able to quit writing and recording songs. I make music for myself first, to free my mind. I’m a big time introvert, you’re lucky if you can get a few words out of me. My music is the bridge that links me to the people. I share it with the world because I think a lot of us can not only relate to my content, but also can feel the emotions that I’m trying to share. That’s my way to connect with people, through emotions. It’s hard for me to see it as a career, because I haven’t felt like I was working during my creative process yet. Career or not, I would be doing it anyway.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think what sets me apart from others is the honesty you can find in my sound. I don’t have the best voice, but each word is sang with sincerity. All my songs are unique, I don’t do copy/paste. I’m really versatile, on some tracks you will think that there’s more than one person singing but it’s only me. I’m not scared to stretch my voice, and I’m not scared to try unconventional things. Add that to a premium beat selection, and you get that Sainte-Foy’s sound. There’s no secret. Long hours, sleepless nights, it’s mostly the same for any artist that really cares about his sound. The hardest part is to remain patient, to wait for the perfect timing. I did lost a lot of songs for releasing them too early with a weak marketing plan. That is most certainly the biggest lesson I’ve learned. Stay patient. You’ll find everything you need to know about me or my brand in my music.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I never been to ATL yet. I’m from a small city named Quebec. What’s beautiful about the city is its historical aspect. All the views of urban landscapes, buildings and monuments evoking the era of New France. So I’ll probably show him these. Other than that there’s not much to see. It’s the perfect city to be on your grind. It’s easy to avoid distractions when the nightlife is almost inexistant. Most events my songs are about took place outside of the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I gotta thank God for filing my head with infinite melodies. Shoutout to Fab J, he’s the first person to ever believe in my projects, and helped me finding my sound when I first started. His work ethic, and dedication not only inspired me, but helped me build my sound. Shoutout to YNLSTACKINGBNDZ. for feeding me with beats for a few years now. I wasn’t even really rapping before meeting him that’s the craziest part, I was more of a singer. He made me expand my game, try new sounds, new flows, new vibes until we found the right ones. I wouldn’t be as versatile without him.
