We had the good fortune of connecting with PJ Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi PJ, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to start my own business, my very first thought was I get to be my own boss. I would have control of how much time I spend working and how much money I make. On top of that, I don’t have to answer to anybody. As excited as I was to get my photography business up and running, I knew the road to entrepreneurship would have its trials and tribulations. I think it is important to look at the pros and cons of anything you want to do in life, and that I did. Ultimately, after weighing my options, I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and embark on this new journey. I’m highly optimistic my business will continue to grow and help me reach new heights in all aspects of life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When I started photography, I always told myself that I wanted to be as diverse as possible. So far, i think it’s safe to say I’m doing well. My portfolio embodies many different aspects of everyday life. In 2020, I picked up a camera and never looked back. After making numerous connections and watching other creatives work, I slowly began to build a rapport with my potential clients. It wasn’t easy to get to the position I’m at; however, I wouldn’t say it was hard. Consistency and discipline can take you a long way. Also, when you’re pursuing your passion, it gives you a personal edge because its something you genuinely want to progress in. Photography has given me the ability to visualize a concept and bring it to life. That’s where I believe I standout. My brand encompasses a wide range of images that reflect my keen interest in fashion, beauty and lifestyle. My clients tend to have a personal connection with their photographs after working with me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

We’re definitely going to the Painted Pin. It’s an upscale boutique bar that offers a variety of games. Bowling, ping pong and skee ball are just a few to name. I’d also take them to Atlantic Station. Do a little shopping, see a movie and take some pictures outside. The last spot I would take them to is the Ponce City Market. This area has a food hall, shops and rooftop with carnival games and a live DJ.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Now of course I didn’t get this far in life all by myself. There’s too many names I could say, so I’m going to keep it simple lol. You guys know who you are and the struggles I’ve had to overcome. Shout out to my friends, family and mentors. Unfortunately, there were countless of times where I was unsure of myself and what I wanted to do in life. With the help of my loved ones, constantly reminding me of my potential, I finally realized it within myself. I worked on my craft and became more confident in my abilities. My ultimate goal is to be able to provide for all of my people. After putting up with all of my troubles, I figured it’s the least I could do.
