We had the good fortune of connecting with Photo By Ayala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Photo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art is a fundamental part of who I am, a never-ending exploration, and it is what has brought me the most joy and inspiration in my life. I pursued my artistic career in photography because it allows me to create and share art that I am passionate about, without any limitations. Photography opens my mind to new possibilities and gives me new meaning on what kind of artist I want to be, a photographer.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

My unique upbringing as a first-generation Colombian-American woman has profoundly shaped me as an artist and inspires my work every day. My background is the foundation of my artistic vision and motivates me to share my perspective with the world through my lens. As a photographer I find inspiration from my bicultural identity and Native ancestry; I aim to capture uplifting empowering imagery of women of color while sharing a little piece of my story.

As a woman of color, I strive to create representation in the industry of photography. It’s important to me to provide a safe space for women to join me in celebrating our resilience. Within the past year, I have had exciting retouching opportunities and am proud to be a Retoucher for Savage X Fenty. Along with photography, I look forward to what the future holds for my retouching career as well.

I got to where I am today professionally by honing in on my craft, seeking opportunities to grow in my art, challenging myself, and never giving up. Pursuing a career in the arts has its own set of challenges and requires a lot of hard work, but being passionate about what you do makes the journey a fun and fulfilling experience.

Here are some lessons I have learned along the way: First and foremost, it’s important to find joy in your creative process and not to let failure discourage you. Trust yourself and your vision even when others don’t, ask for help when you need it, and surround yourself with people and experiences that inspire you. Here are some lessons I have learned along the way: First and foremost, it’s important to find joy in your creative process and not to let failure discourage you. If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love traveling and experiencing new places so if my best friend was visiting for a week long trip I would plan for us to go somewhere warm preferably where there is a beach with mountains in sight and amazing food. Also as an art and music lover, some of the most fun, interesting, exciting things to check out in my opinion would be an art museum or going to a venue where you can listen to live music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Yes! I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my family and to all the beautiful souls who have joined me on my photo journey. To have my photography reach anyone who finds my work inspiring is such a special gift. It truly means a lot to me when I receive any and all love and support in me and my photography so thank you!
