We had the good fortune of connecting with Peyton Magee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peyton, what do you want people to remember about you?
I want my legacy to be focused on community, and all the people I brought together. I hope to provide a safe and comfortable place where people can help each other. People should learn something new from each newsletter that I publish and I hope they see the newsletter as having a deep emotional side, and a fun enjoyable side. I want my legacy not to be focused on something I created, but on improving the community as a whole. As my mission statement says, my main goals are to build a stronger community and spread a positive influence.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started very small, knowing almost nothing about business. All I knew was I wanted to create a neighborhood newsletter, so I did what I could. I used the resources that I had and sent out flyers. In the beginning, I didn’t see much success, but I didn’t focus on that, I just kept making the newsletters. Every single newsletter I sent out, I was learning something. As my skillset improved my subscribership grew, and I kept going.

Some major things that helped me get where I am today include being interviewed twice by our local paper, The Oconee Enterprise, as well as Voyage Atlanta, in addition to interviewing big names such as former NFL cornerback Dunta Robinson, and World Parkinson’s Table Tennis medalist Navin Kumar.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Sunday – walk around downtown Watkinsville, Main Street, and the arts district to get a feel for the area

Monday – eat lunch at Chops and Hops and dinner at Butcher and Vine, go bowling

Tuesday – watch a movie and go to the Athens-Clarke County Library

Wednesday – go to Oconee Veterans Park for a game of pickup soccer and walk the trails, then take a dip in the pool

Thursday – check-out downtown Athens, see a band

Friday – take a photography class with Chris Greer

Saturday – take in a UGA football game, walk under the arch

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my mother for always supporting me and helping me on my journey. She has been there since Day One and has helped improve the Gazette more than I could have ever imagined.

I would also like to thank every single one of my subscribers, and everyone I have had a chance to interview. I have received nothing but positive feedback and they have inspired me to continue working. The Gazette alone means nothing without the community.
