We had the good fortune of connecting with Peter Morrison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Peter, how do you think about risk?
When I decided to quit my high paying corporate job in 2001 to pursue a career in entertainment I had no guarantees of success with being a full time magician. What I believed was that if others had been successful why would I be any different. More importantly to be was I felt there was no other option because I had passion for performance but the same could not be said for being a corporate salesman. I believe that truly successful people must take risks that can never have a guaranteed reward. I have found that provided the motive is pure and passion driven that those who endevor in risks will stay the course to become successful in their endeavors.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What makes a great Magician? Understanding who you are and what your character is. This has to be the basis from which you start. The reason why is that without that you can not differentiate yourself from others. You need to know what your product is. I this case of course it is the individual. I got where I am today through good old fashioned hard work it was far from easy, but my passion and relationship with God carried me through. . It took me 6 years to get back to the income level I had in the corporate world, but by year 10 I had doubled it, and by year 12 I had tripled it. From a starting point of zero here is what I have accomplished over the last 22 years.
Over the last 22 years I have performed over 8,000 shows in virtually every environment imaginable, including private functions and feature appearances at The Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. In 2010, I built and opened my own critically-acclaimed magic theater in San Francisco, where I had sold-out audiences night after night with my signature elegant style of classical magic. In 2016 I decided to moved his show to Atlanta creating the Atlanta Magic Theater which has shared the same recognition as being the top rated show and attraction in the City of Atlanta.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Blueridge Georgia to go fly fishing, followed by a trip to Charleston and Savannah. As far as the details of the trip I prefer to do things on vacation on a spure of the moment basis.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
For me my number one fan and believer in me is my wife. She was supportive of the move from the corporate world into becoming a full time magician. This all happened in our first year of marriage. The one thing that has carried my more than any other is my relationship with God. Without that I would have never been able to take the risks that I have in my life. The belief that God was with me removed the fear and uncertainty, without him I would be nothing.
