We had the good fortune of connecting with Pervis Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pervis, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is Jesus! Then after that, it was my belief in myself. Ive been working in this space of coaching people and black men for over ten years. I’ve been laughed at, made fun of and overlooked. However, I was reminded of my field of work is about the people. I had to tell myself, “Pervis you’ve been used to transformed the lives of many.” My success is based on the fact that my work isn’t about me. It’s about amplifying the greatness in people. It has to always be about that. The moment it becomes about me, then my business has failed.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Ive been a coach for over ten years. It has been quite a journey. It has not been easy to say the least. I foresaw years ago that we as a country would be dealing with a mental health crisis, especially in black men. Organizations laughed at me. Friends made fun of me. The organizations that did see the vision didn’t pay me my worth. The reason I made it was because I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that this was my purpose. I was created to help transform lives. I never gave up even when everything around me was telling me to do so. I definitely made some mistakes along my journey. One of the biggest was that I didn’t properly plan financially nor save. If I’d done that the journey might not have been so adverse lol. Also I didn’t properly map out my career. I kind of felt my way through. If I could do it again, I would’ve had a more detailed plan for my business. I want the world to know that my coaching does transform lives. I am immersed in the healing and thriving of my clients. If you want transformation, if you want to thrive, if you want to get on the journey towards wholeness, then I’m your guy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s see my new favorite tea spot is Brooklyn Tea which is headquartered in Brooklyn but they’ve opened a spot in Atlanta. I also would go to Pappadeaux’s in Alpharetta ( I stay in this place ;( lol) I do like Slutty Vegan. I’m just not interested in the long lines lol. I can’t go wrong with Houston’s that spinach dip is out of this world.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My friend Malika Harris. Over ten years ago she was the first person to hire me in my career as a coach and speaker. She was also the first person to get me a 10k check. She is also the person that encouraged me to go to grad school. I was afraid to apply. She encouraged me to go for it and I graduated from Columbia University with a 3.95 GPA.! Im indebted to her belief in me. She continually challenges me to be greater and never to be complacent in my success.
