We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Duerr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paul, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
My number one passion in life has always been U.S. history. Primarily the age of the Civil War, and the Presidency of Abraham Lincoln. My pursuit of a writing career (and a career in politics) has always been based in my passion for history. I started writing historical fiction books inserting a fictional character into historical time periods ranging from the Civil War to the World Wars. I have also just written my first non-fiction book ‘Sentiments on the American Executive’ which is a political-science based work which analyzes the office of the American Presidency. The reason I write books is to make historical and political topics accessible to the readers and to express my thoughts on the subjects I am most passionate about.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am firmly rooted in two careers: Writing and Politics. I am currently a freshman finishing my second semester at Rutgers University, but I have been lucky enough to have many opportunities at such a young age. I began writing at 15 years old and published my first book at 16 years old, in May of 2021. Since then I have published six additional books, am the subject of numerous articles and news stories, and have conducted several book signings, presentations, and other writing-based events. All this achieved while either in high school or college. This writing career has also opened the door to politics for me. I served as the Board of Education Student Representative in my hometown of Hawthorne, New Jersey, where one of the board members was running for New Jersey State Senate and offered me a job on her campaign in early 2023 as a senior in high school. Since then, I have actively been working in politics and have been lucky to receive numerous opportunities in that field, all while attending University.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to the village that it took to raise me. There have been so many people involved in my upbringing including but not limited to my mother, my brother, my stepmother, my best friends, and the educators that taught me from kindergarten to college.
