We had the good fortune of connecting with Patti Pan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patti, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in business school and 30 years old when I decided to start my own business. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur; the question was whether it should be now or later. I’ve given a lot of consideration and spoken with a lot of individuals. When I recall the process, I divide my thoughts into three categories. First, I wondered if I had a love for something that I truly wanted to do. Or whether my concept has a market. I’ve loved art since I was a child, and I believe I’m gifted at finding beautiful things. At the time, I had created a network of artists and was also in school, which provided me with a lot of support in starting my own business.
Second, was it a lifestyle I wanted to pursue? It was significant to me. My parents were strict to me as a child growing up in a typical Asian family. I did well in school and previously worked for large corporations. Throughout those years, I was steadily climbing the corporate ladder. However, I was dissatisfied. I knew it was not what I wanted for my life. When I turned 30, I panicked because I was concerned that my life would be like this: getting a good salary job, struggling for a house, and having a stable life rather than making an impact and accomplishing my ambition. Then I knew I was mentally prepared.
Finally, I considered what I may lose if I failed. I had no mortgage or children at the time. My parents were not old enough to require my help. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to take the risks. I was fortunate in that I did not have many responsibilities to others. That’s the moment I decided to take the risk.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In RevArt, we believe in the power of growth and we grow alongside our artists. Furthermore, nearly 65% of RevArt artists are female or minority. We are honored that they have placed their trust in us.
It took us a lot of luck and hard effort to get where we are in the art business. We always believe in doing the right thing, and we perform a lot of work ahead of time for free in order to earn clients and users. We spend a lot of time trying to persuade people why artists should be paid more. We try to provide value to artists in different value event sometimes it is not the right time work together. We value relationships and the return is fruitful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will definitely bring her to Atlanta Botanical Garden, Ponce City Market for food hall, George Aquarium, Atlanta BeltLine for ice cream and dinner, and RevArt Gallery in downtown.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout Vivia Barron, an amazing African American artists.
