We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well to keep it short and sweet, I love to make people smile and the way my food makes people feel usually garners that response. I’ve been smoking foods for 8 yrs now and the love I get from that makes cooking feel less than a job and more like a real chill day with my brother in law and partner in “crime”.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well being that I started driving trucks in 2010, I’ve been all over the country more times than I could ever count. The hardest part of that was missing out on a lot of time with my family. I didn’t want to be an absent father or husband. I hated missing special occasions so i really wanted to find a way to make money and do something i really loved and wanted to do.From that I started cooking in 2016 to help me get off the over the road jobs. The very first time I made ribs, my family went crazy and that feeling was exhilarating. So I stayed watching some of the best chefs, taking notes, ideas and trying to make my own way in BBQ. Wanting to find a balance between driving and making food is still so hard and honestly if I didn’t have my family and friends backing me I wouldn’t know where I’d be. If there’s one thing I would love for people to know about Smokinbrixxbbq is that I belive good food and good people could heal this world of all it’s ails one meal at a time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well first we’d have to go to the aquarium and then head straight to Southern Fire Kitchen. Hands down some of the best souls food in Georgia. The 3rd spot is super cool so that would have to be a must go. The daiquiri factory for good drinks and a little hang out time. Then we’d have to go to Fayetteville Fun Bowl because I love to bowl lol. Juicy crab is a must go to eatery. Then to top all experiences we would have to go the Atlanta motor speedway to drive real race cars. One of the greatest experiences of my life.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow ummm I don’t think I could just name one but I’ll name 3 if that’s OK? I would like to shootout my brother in law MacKenzie Bunn for constantly pushing me to believe that I’m really better than I believe I am. He’s truly my batman and I’m superman. Second I would have to shout out my niece/ partner Tyasia Coburn for believing in my vision so much that she helped get my business started. But most important it would have to be Mishelle Hunt, my wife. She inspired me to want to cook in the first place. She’s my biggest fan but will not let just tell me what I want to hear. She will tell me the truth ever time. She makes sure I put my best into everything I do. I owe her everything.
