We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
StickUp Artistry & Design provides high-quality balloon art designs for any celebration or photo opportunity. Life sometimes takes us away from pursuing our passion or utilizing our gifts. This is why I started my company. I wasn’t using my creativity and design skills as much as I would like in my day-to-day life. I saw an opportunity to utilize my skills to help people celebrate their most important milestones and that’s how StickUp Artistry & Design was born. I definitely enjoy what I do. I want everyone to know that is interested in my services: (1) That they can trust the fulfillment of their needs to my business and (2) Excellent quality and customer service is an integral part of my experience with my business. I chose the name StickUp Artistry & Design to pay homage to the rich history and tradition of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority incorporated. As a member of Sigma Gamma Rho, I’ve participated in the art of stepping and canes are an integral part of our step shows. Some of the formations using the cane, involve sticking the cane up in the air which is how I came up with “Stick” and holding the cane upside-down where the handle makes a “U” shape is how I came up with “Up.” I combined the two and “StickUp” Artistry & Design was created.

What makes StickUp Artistry & Design different from other balloon art businesses is that I incorporate small elements of balloon twisting in my designs. Crafting fun and unique creations is a absolute joy. In addition, I specialize in creating wearable balloon dresses that are unique and eye-catching.

Balloon Twisting is a fun and versatile way to mold and bend balloons to take on any shape. Balloon Twisting allows me, as an artist, to express my creativity and it opens a kaleidoscope of structures that I design. I’ve found, that these added elements enhance the balloon experience and adds a signature to my balloon art pieces, that makes my business stand out from other balloon artist(s).

The process of creating a balloon dress involves more than just balloons; it’s about transforming an idea into a wearable masterpiece that reflects style and personality. To ensure a perfect fit and design, I need the model’s measurements and this serves as the foundation for an exclusive balloon dress creation. Wearing a balloon dress is an experience unlike any other. The vibrant colors, the lightweight feel, and the playful elegance are just a few elements that make wearing a balloon dress an absolute delight. Not only will it capture attention, but it also sparks joy and laughter, creating unforgettable moments.

The life of a balloon artist has both rewarding and challenging moments. Clients love the work that you do, but the financial investment for this artistry can be challenging. It’s a wonderful feeling when you can create the vision your client has, but with that vision comes a particular cost. Balloon artistry demands not only creative skills, but also a significant investment in high-quality materials and tools. Balloons, despite being a seemingly simple medium, require precision and durability for intricate designs.

Looking forward, my ultimate goal is to establish a gallery showcasing balloon art and create a space for fellow balloon artists. I also aspire to organize a fashion show featuring my balloon dress creations and balloon purse designs. There are no limits in the world of balloon artistry; if you can imagine a design, balloons can bring it to life.

I am excited about the journey ahead and I aim to continue spreading joy and creativity through my unique balloon art pieces.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta has so many things to see and do. The culture is rich and ever changing. If my best friend was in town for the week, we would do the following:

· Indoor skydiving at iFLY- This indoor skydiving event is fun and full of adrenaline

· Krog Street Tunnel – Explore a kaleidoscope of colors via street art by local artists

· Illuminarium – This digital adventure is fun for all ages and sizes

· Poor Calvin’s – Enjoy the best Thai cuisine at this specialty crafted boutique restaurant

· Ponce City Market food tour – If you are a certified “foodie” you have to try all the mouthwatering meals and treats to choose

· The Atlanta Botanical Garden- Stroll through a variety of plants, flowers and plant structures

· The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra – Sit back and listen to the soothing sounds of the 200 piece orchestra

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a strong support system of friends and family who are always supporting me and encouraging me to do more to expand my business. They read articles I write, send pictures of balloon designs/techniques, donate/volunteer time to assist with a balloon event, and offer constructive criticism when needed. My friends and family talk about my balloon artwork and refer me at every opportunity. My support system helps me not be so critical of myself and celebrate every opportunity.
In the demanding world of artistry, where self-reflection is constant, my circle plays a vital role in providing encouragement, especially during stressful situations. Their unwavering support contributes to strike a balance between family, work, and business growth, for which I am truly grateful.
