We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Lawson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The creation of beauty products is very time consuming. Just think about it , Brands have to figure out what their niche is , then what product to offer, a name for the product, how to market the product and how to make the product. The media behind the brand most times are done by the owner. I do the marketing , product creation, and content creating as well. Working in a field where the saturation is astonishingly high standing out is the most desired goal. When creating products there is endless hours of research involved. You have to research the individual ingredients in every product if you want to have the accurate knowledge . Then there is product testing that can take weeks or months for accurate results. So if your want to create your own products understand research and time is a must.
Some may not be aware that you can also get your products from private label vendors. Private labeling is when a supplier or manufacturer produces goods that are retailed, packaged, and sold exclusively by a third party. Meaning they create everything for you. You just do the branding and marketing for you business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Im most proud of the success and advancement of my brand. I’ve been in the beauty industry for years working as a Natural Hairstylist. I’ve always had the passion for beauty from a young girl. Starting to style my first client at the age 13. I’ve always known that I wanted more than the typical 9-5 and to own my own business. I first started PaToli Collection in 2018 and I publicly launched online in 2020. PaToli Collection is an array of cruelty free, hand-crafted, organic and plant based line of beauty products. I researched for years before i decided to launch. We offer sugar scrub, matte lipstick, whipped body butter, lip gloss ,soap and more. The “THEN & NOW ” of our brand is amazing and I’m proud to be the person behind it all.
I Just started a Brand Ambassador Program for individuals who would love to support and be apart of our brand success. Im super excited to see the progress of the program. The program was created so that I could generate more brand awareness. We want all our customers and our team to know and feel beautiful. Beauty is Love & Love is Beauty is our tagline for a reason.
Getting to where I Am now with my business took Persistence, Consistency and Perseverance. The road to get here has not been easy but it’s been a road that would I DON’T regret taking. The curves on the route I’m taking were made specifically for me and I’m okay with every curve. Taking the initiative to keep my brand going has been the key to my brand becoming more successful. In order to keep going I always think about “BIgger Picture”.
For success in my business is that I plan ahead. I have about 3 notebooks that I use for my business planning. I write down and plan everything ahead of time.
In the month of September I Sponsored my very first Vendors event Shop & Network Pop-up Shop. My goal and main focus for the event was to bring local businesses to the light. There were vendors from Savanna, Ga, West Georgia and Cleveland, Ohio. The event was very successful and I plan to sponsor another event soon.
My overall goal for PaToli Collection is nationwide distribution and helping others feel the beauty within self.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay Let’s see… We will definitely slide through The Battery ATL . The Battery has everything thing from clothing at small shops to bubble tea and ramen soup at the Chinese Cafeteria. Then away to the Ikea store in Atlanta for a little more shopping, after we will walk across the street to the Atlantic station to find a restaurant to have a couple cocktails. Next day we will go visit Madame CJ Walker museum, Underground Railroad and go through the Sweet Auburn Market to get some thing to snack on. We will take the streetcar to the ferris wheel take a ride then head over to Edgewood Ave to get some fries at the Slutty Vegan. We end our night in midtown after we eat at Papi’s Cuban restaurant and have some drinks . Most likely we will end their trip in the country laid back relaxing in the yard with a bottle of Taylor Port wine. There is so much to do and enjoy in Atlanta and the state of Georgia.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give the biggest shout out to my 3 daughters and their father. They push me to be better and to get things done. If it wasn’t for their father showing me and standing behind me at all times I couldn’t manage . He has always believed in me and my dreams even when I doubted myself. He was right there in the background telling me “DON’T STOP NOW TRISH”
I’m just so grateful for family and all of my supporters. It takes a team to be successful and mine is always behind me rooting me on.
