We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patricia, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
First of all, this question I hope I am answering to the proper audience, because you can’t fill people’s expectation including the little people. We must be very thoughtful of those moves. Going back to the question are several moves that relates to my mental health sake and my children. How my children have been impacted?. I think by human nature we feel we need a family structure, and my children in our case have been transitioning with this all the time. On the bright side, as an immigrant and mom that unfortunately couldn’t make something in this country. I always been in the look to impress my two little men, that is more that a motivation is a push!. And Covid -19 came as a curse and blessed, and impacted me as well, it pushed me to arise what I always wanted to become since I was a kid. A recognizable artist that not only on my boys I can create an impact, but also with the society that connects with my life. Overall, we were one day kids and we never understood our parent’s choices. I always try to tell my children ” I did this for me, you all are part of me so is also for you all, never thank me for that, that’s call mother instincts and LOVE”. Doing art and murals is a hard task, but it have been also an escaped for me to be free and keep growing. But the most important it has helped me to be there for my boys.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To be honest, I would say I am not there yet where I want it to be. I’m still in the university of life and learning. But to answer the question, is the connection I have to many of people who has dreams, and that it has’t been easy, I’m a very open book to my family and that’s what has making me be in that special place on my community’s heart. I am very proud of my ethics and mission in life that I am still figuring out, at every moment something it pop ups my brain and having the support of my friends that’s also makes me so happy because without them, Patl.sv’s moments wouldn’t happen. How did I get here?
Consistency, pushing myself hard and sacrifices as a woman and mom I have to make those choices. I always tell my children and young people and for the ones are still hesitant in their dreams, life is not easy overall just believe who you want to be and never stop knocking doors “one will open out of 100 you do”.
Support from my friends that to me are like my family is how I overcome those challenging times, keep working to figuring out struggles. I have learn to be wiser and add this to my life so I can better do my role for myself and my brand and the world to know that PATL.SV is a platform that in the long term goal you will see it in walls, clothes and conversation that help the next generation on keeping the dreams out among the reality we born, because we didn’t ask to be here. So I want myself to keep learning from others and give back to children from single parents and unfortunate families that they can shelter in art, if they like art, and also “Nuestra creation” art show expands it. Creativity come in many shapes and my shapes is growing and spread our messages in art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would love to say as a artist connector I love to show artsy or historical areas. West side areas are great. I love Mexican and Latin cuisine, Buford Hwy, farmers market and restaurants are a must to take a friend. I’ve been so blessed to have amazing friends as entrepreneurs and have some pop ups markets, I love hanging out by supporting local business. And have amazing experiences to local restaurants as well. A great bike ride is amazing, depend on the weather, and of course Art Show hangouts are the best for me!.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family which is my friends, and their support. My mother and boys and “gee”
