We had the good fortune of connecting with Patience Roy’al and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patience, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by all forms of art. Within the past 2 years, I’ve been heavily inspired by words and cinematic visuals.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m so excited for the art I’ll be putting out in 2024. I’ve spent a lot of time focusing on my inner growth the past few years and this is just my year to really kick it all off with everything that I can offer artistically. I was pretty much in “hermit mode”, still creating art just in different ways. During that time, my love for pole dancing flourished and I can’t wait to show that throughout my future projects. Throughout my artistic career, I definitely faced some challenges.. but the problem was me. I faced writers block, low inspiration levels and also an identity crisis. While growing as an individual and as an artist, your creations change in one way or another. With me being able to pinpoint where I struggled, I was able to give myself grace and patience to see it through with my goals… which is to feel authentic to my art. I learned that even through my hermit phase, I was always an artist. I used those moments of solitude to really solidify the foundation within myself as a singer, songwriter and dancer. I’m working on my EP right now so keep a look out on that coming soon!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the Strip District. There’s so much food and stores to shop down there! Also, I feel like The Strip shows a good bit of Pittsburgh culture which would be nice to share.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shout out to my aunt, Melissa, who pours unconditional love and positivity in me. My sister, Lailah, who helps with my creative process and my son, Nathan, who is the core of why I do, what I do.

Also, I’d like to shout out 1Hood for giving 15 year old me the chance to step up my art and put me in rooms and on stages I’d never thought I’d be in.
