We had the good fortune of connecting with Parth Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Parth, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It took me awhile to find a reason as to why I chose to be a Business major. I realized that I love being creative, making connections, building a strong bond with people! Later on in 2023, I realized I wanted to teach business-related classes and being able to relate to the students.
One of the reasons as to why I chose to major in the business field is because of the important life skills you learn. You are able to learn the importance of building connection and building a bond with people. Another skill I learned while being a business major is being able to communicate properly. Why is that important you ask? It encourages innovation, ensuring clarity, and help improves team work and collaboration. In general, communication plays an important role in your life whether its in a workplace environment, relationship, family, or even with friends. Getting into making gaming videos on YouTube and streaming over on Twitch played an important role on me becoming a business major. It allowed me to be creative, grow an audience, and make tons of friends! It also reminded me that challenges will occur, just like how challenges will occur in the business field.
Becoming a Business major has helped me become better with the skills such as decision making and problem-solving. It has helped me become a better brainstormer when it comes to coming up with ideas too!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
On November 9th, 2012, I uploaded my first ever YouTube video! I remember I got so excited that I told my grandpa that I uploaded a video on the YouTube platform! I began streaming over on the Twitch platform back in 2021! I am proud that I got into content creation, why you may ask? It helped me realized what its like to grow an audience, make connections by making friends, and being creative with my videos/streams! I remember getting affiliated on Twitch back 2022, I was so proud of the hard work! Becoming a content creator on YouTube & Twitch has made me so happy and made me confident on putting myself out there!
Was it easy? I would say yes and no. I would say its easy because all you have to do is pick up a phone, camera, or any sort of recording/editing program to just hit record and upload! One of the reasons as to why I am saying it’s not 100% easy is due to the fact that I struggled finding the motivation to record or even stream. Burning yourself out can be another one too. Struggling to gain an audience and time management was something I faced throughout the years of being a YouTuber and Twitch streamer. I had to remind myself every day to keep going and keep trying to grow an audience. That is when I had to come up with a strategy on how to stay motivated to keep making gaming videos over on YouTube and stream over on Twitch. I had to make sure to plan out in advance on what days I want to stream or record videos! I had to make sure I get done with my studies first and make sure my other important tasks are done as well. Do not let the haters get to you and keep thinking about the positives! The Algorithm can also tricky too, when trying to get peoples attention to your twitch streams or YouTube videos.
I do a little bit of Photography and sometimes make posters from time to time! Back in 2020, I started practicing on making my own posters, layouts, etc.
Something I want everybody to keep in mind is to keep finding networking opportunities out there and make connections to seek guidance on what you, yourself want to do in your life. Push through the pain, giving up hurts more. Lift yourself up and face those heavy/hard challenges!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were to take my best friend to some of my favorite spots in my city, it would be in the downtown area! I would take my friend to a nice restaurant to eat and go explore other spots in the downtown area! Since my best friend and I love video games, I would take them to an arcade where you just pay to go in and play all the games you want, while having some drinks! Since I do enjoy watching movies, I would take my friend to the movies and enjoy something that the both of us might be interesting or have been looking forward to for awhile! I would take them to my favorite stores that involves old/classic games and consoles that we all grew up and loved! I would take them to some sort of theme park as well! Having fun in life is important!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A huge shoutout to all the Business professors I have had within the past five years! Dr. McChesney is one of my favorite instructors and deserves a lot of credit. He was able to help me throughout my Applied Internship back in 2021, when I was let down two times. Him and Dr. Carlson assigned me with a project during the Applied Internship, it was about study abroad! I had to do PowerPoints, edit videos, and discuss ideas on ways to get IRSC students to be interested in Studying abroad in I believe Germany. Later in the fall semester of 2023, I was mentoring under Dr. McChesney and Dr. Carlson by doing another project on how we could get associate degree students to stay at IRSC for their Bachelors and tell them about the Bloomberg Terminal. That is when I realized that I have a passion for working on projects, doing the proper research, effective communication, and making myself presentable! I realized that gave more of a reason to become an instructor just like them!
Dr. Maitland is another amazing professor as well. I had two classes with her and if I were to name one thing that I have learned from her, you have to keep trying and never give up.
I had a pleasure having a class with Dr. Brown back in 2020, it was a Social Media Marketing class. I remember during Spring semester of this year, My friend, his classmate, and I were having a conversation with him in his office. One thing I learned from him, is that not everyone is perfect and practice builds confidence. Long story short, If I could name one thing that I have realized about all the business professors I have had, is that everyone has went through some sort of struggle.
Dr. Bailey, Dr. Ricardo, & Professor Butler are also amazing instructors I got to experience as well! They are the reason why I want to stay motivated and remind myself to not burn myself out!
My assigned advisor, Simone Griffith, dealt with me ever since I step foot at Indian River State College. She has seen me at my worse back in 2022 when I didn’t know what to do with myself when I entered into the Bachelors program after I got done with my associates. Oh boy, it felt like Simone was dealing with a five year old not wanting to do these other pre-requisite classes for my second associates along with my Bachelors! She made sure I was getting A’s and B’s in all my classes! “I want to make sure all my babies get A’s and B’s” -Simone Griffith. I kept my promise to her and made sure to study hard and get good grades!
A HUGE shoutout to everyone I work with over at the tutoring center. I remember starting my training as an English/reading tutor, I was a little nervous, but then I had to remind myself to be confident that I can help students properly and just have fun!
Finally, another big shoutout to all my family and friends for continuous support and guidance! Especially the friends I have made through YouTube and Twitch, the greatest friends I could have asked for!
