We had the good fortune of connecting with Paris Monet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paris, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Atlanta, specifically Decatur. I was born into a single parent household. Although I was provided with everything I needed, I didnt get everything I wanted. This instilled in me a hunger for more and a drive to achieve my goals, leading me to start working at 14 years old. Working that young, instilled a strong work ethic, resilience, and a keen sense of responsibility in me. Being in Atlanta, a black mecca, I was surrounded by successful black entrepreneurs from work, church, and community organizations. Therefore, my active involvement in community organizations provided invaluable opportunities to strengthen my leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. I didn’t even realize at the time that I was learning essential traits that laid the foundation for my journey as an entrepreneur. All of these roles taught me the importance of dedication, hard work, and the power of connecting with people.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Pink Playhouse (TPP) was created in 2014 with the objective of being a haven for women; to give them a safe space to unwind from the stressors of life and nurture their inner child by releasing inhibitions and letting their creative expression flourish. As a makeup artist, I am dedicated to helping women feel beautiful and more confident about themselves, with and without makeup. My commitment to inclusivity and personalized service sets TPP apart, ensuring every woman feels empowered and confident in her own skin. It is my mission to create a life-changing experience for each individual client and their unique story.

Since starting my journey, I have had the privilege of working for international fashion brands and celebrity clientele, showcasing my skills in high-profile settings. I even started my own cosmetic line, The Pink Playhouse Cosmetics. Currently, I host makeup and skincare classes, sharing my expertise with others. I have had the pleasure of working on TV and film sets, where I’ve contributed to various productions. I’ve also been featured at National Convention Expos, further establishing my presence in the industry.

I am most proud of the community I have built through TPP. I host events that encourage women to come together, share their experiences, and build a strong, supportive network. Seeing the positive impact on the lives of these women is incredibly rewarding and motivates me to keep pushing forward.

The journey to where I am today has not been easy. Starting out with limited resources and navigating a competitive market warrant significant challenges. Being an entrepreneur takes a lot of physical work, and even more mental work. At the time of starting my business, I was working as a Corrections Officer. I used those funds to invest in products, classes, website development, etc., I began doing pop-up shops to make myself known to the public. Every leader is a good follower, so I put myself in spaces with people I could learn from and removed myself from people and spaces that were not good for my development. There were so many early mornings and late nights. Through perseverance, creativity, and the unwavering support of my family, friends, and mentors, I have been able to overcome a lot obstacles. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience and adaptability. The business landscape is constantly changing, and being able to pivot and adapt has been crucial for our long-term success.

I have accomplished many things, but I am most proud of my ability to turn my life around, which is why I aim to encourage people to not let their history define them, but to take control of the pen and create the lives they want for themselves. Just two years ago, I lost my home, my job, my studio, and my confidence. I didn’t let that define me. 2 years later I have flourished like never before! This year alone, I have expanded my cosmetic line and have been featured on the Celebrity Stage at Ultimate Women’s Expo!

I want the world to know that The Pink Playhouse is more than just a business; it’s a community dedicated to empowering women, fostering inclusivity, and making a positive impact. My story is a testament to the power of hard work, determination, and the support of a loving community. I am committed to helping women feel beautiful and confident, both with and without makeup, and providing a space where they can truly be themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Atlanta for this very reason! There’s always so much to do! As a brunch enthusiast, I’ve got a few recommendations: for those who like to turn up, King Of Diamonds AYCE Brunch is the place to be. For a more laid-back vibe, Breakfast at Barney’s offers the cutest menu and aesthetic, and I also adore Atlanta Breakfast Club. When it comes to dinner, Frida’s Bar & Grill is fantastic, and Iron Age KBBQ has never let me down. Every restaurant on Main Street in College Park is absolutely delicious! For drinks, Sky Lounge offers a professional scene, while Duckanoos is great for a casual vibe.

If you love art, definitely check out Frequency Friday at The High Museum and Black Art in America. For sightseeing, I recommend Atlanta Botanical Garden, walking the BeltLine, exploring Krog Street Market, and visiting Little Five Points. For shopping, Phipps Plaza is great for designer finds, while Camp Creek Marketplace is perfect for budget-friendly options.

To relax, spend time at Piedmont Park and enjoy drinks at The Tavern. For high-energy activities, Stone Mountain Park and canoeing on the Chattahoochee River are fantastic. I don’t do roller coasters, but I love watching my friends enjoy themselves at Six Flags.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe a great deal of my success to several key people and groups who have been instrumental in my journey. First and foremost, my grandmother deserves a huge shoutout. She had us involved in every organization you could think of, which instilled great values in me at a very young age. Her dedication to our growth and development laid the foundation for the person I am today.

I also want to recognize my sister, who has always supported and believed in me from the very beginning. Her unwavering faith in my abilities has been a constant source of encouragement. My entire family has been incredibly supportive throughout my journey, providing the love and backing I needed to pursue my dreams.

A special mention goes to Barbee, a celebrity makeup artist, who has taken me under her wing and brought me along to work on professional sets with numerous celebrities. Her mentorship and opportunities have been invaluable in my professional growth.

My partner has been a pillar of strength, always encouraging me and assisting with any task I ask. Their support has been crucial in managing the many demands of my career. My friends have also been a tremendous source of support, always cheering me on and believing in my vision.

Lastly, I want to acknowledge the strangers who become clients. Their support and trust in my work keep me going the most. Knowing that I can make a positive impact in their lives is incredibly fulfilling and motivates me to continue striving for excellence.

Each of these people have contributed to my growth and success, and I am deeply grateful for all of their support and influence.
