We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Short and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paige, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have had a passion for creative endeavors my whole life, and started seriously pursuing my path as an artist in highschool. I derive an immense amount of joy and peace through drawing, and have always known that I would dedicate my life and career toward keeping it at the forefront of whatever I decide to do and wherever I go.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My name is Paige Short , and I am a graduate from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia with a BFA concentration in drawing. My art has been a lifelong passion, and I always knew that it would be a lifelong career for me.

Much of my work seeks to depict subjects in a dreamlike manner surrounded by decorative representations of natural aspects largely to portray surreal, supernatural beings, or personify symbolism, concepts or other nonhuman objects in a way that brings them to life as a human form. Often, I use natural and floral imagery as a way to adorn the illustrations for aesthetic purpose, while also utilizing the meanings that these details hold to further add to the overall mood of each piece. By drawing these portraits in such a way, the viewer is drawn in and captivated by the individual, wanting to know their story.

Currently I am a tattoo apprentice at Secret Garden Tattoo in Johns Creek, GA, and a soon to be tattoo artist.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The biggest thing I would suggest is the music scene. Atlanta has one of the best music scenes in the country, no matter what genre you prefer. With so many venues to choose from, from the Masquerade, the Eastern, Coca Cola Roxy, State Farm Arena, The Tabernacle etc. you’re bound to find a show. Midtown and downtown also have plenty of spots to check out, from the High Museum, to the Georgia Aquarium, to the Botanical Gardens, there is no lack of things to do and places to see. With the weather getting warmer, I would also highly suggest looking into any big art events/markets coming up, and also any farmers markets on Saturdays

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my parents for constantly being supportive throughout my entire life, always pushing me to follow my passions, and providing endless love and encouragement. Through all the ups and downs, they have never wavered in enthusiastically having my back towards my creative endeavors, and I could not be any more grateful.
