Hi Oshrit, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
From IDF Instructor to Atlanta Photographer: Osherit Hakmon’s Journey of Self-Discovery

Osherit Hakmon’s story is a testament to the power of embracing change and pursuing one’s passions. Nine years ago, she made the life-altering decision to leave her native Israel and follow her husband’s job to Atlanta, Georgia. This transition brought about a significant shift in her lifestyle, transforming her from a busy, independent professional into a full-time stay-at-home mom.

While the initial adjustment was challenging, Osherit found herself drawn to the creative possibilities her new surroundings presented. She experimented with various ventures, from furniture refinishing to product importing, all in an effort to find her niche.

Photography, however, had always held a special place in her heart. It began as a hobby, a way to capture precious moments with her three daughters. However, a chance encounter with a friend’s babysitter would set her on an unexpected path.

The babysitter, impressed by Osherit’s photography equipment, suggested she shoot a pregnant friend. Osherit, hesitant due to her lack of formal training, was eventually persuaded to give it a try. The session was a resounding success, and the client purchased all the photographs.

Word of Osherit’s talent spread quickly, and within a week, she was booked for her first professional event. Her early clients played a pivotal role in her growth, their encouragement and belief in her abilities fueling her confidence and determination.

Osherit’s background as an IDF shooting instructor and her degree in visual communication perfectly complemented her newfound passion. She realized that photography seamlessly merged the two, allowing her to express her creativity while capturing the essence of her subjects.

Today, Osherit Hakmon is a thriving photographer in Atlanta, her camera her weapon of choice. She has successfully transformed her hobby into a fulfilling career, all while embracing the challenges and opportunities that came her way. Osherit Hakmon’s passion for photography shines through in every image she captures. What sets you apart from other photographers?

“I believe that my ability to see the beauty in every situation and every person sets me apart,” Osherit explains. “I always focus on the positive, and that comes through in my photographs. I also have a knack for making people feel comfortable and at ease, which allows me to capture their true selves.”

What are you most proud of or excited about in your work?

“I’m most proud of the fact that I get to do what I love for a living,” Osherit says. “I’m so grateful to be able to capture life’s precious moments for people and help them create lasting memories. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the joy on my clients’ faces when they see their photos for the first time.”

How did you get to where you are today professionally?

“My journey into photography began quite unexpectedly,” Osherit recalls. “I was a stay-at-home mom when a friend’s babysitter asked me to photograph her pregnant friend. I was hesitant at first, as I didn’t have any formal training, but the session went so well that the client purchased all the photographs. Word spread, and within a week, I was booked for my first professional event.”

Was it easy to get to where you are today?

“No, it wasn’t easy,” Osherit admits. “There were many challenges along the way, from building my business from the ground up to dealing with the ever-changing landscape of the photography industry. But I’ve always been driven by my passion for photography, and that’s what has kept me going.”

How did you overcome the challenges you faced?

“I overcame challenges by staying focused on my goals and never giving up on my dreams,” Osherit says. “I also surrounded myself with supportive people who believed in me and my work. And most importantly, I never stopped learning and growing as a photographer.”

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

“I’ve learned that it’s important to be patient, persistent, and passionate about what you do,” Osherit shares. “I’ve also learned that it’s okay to ask for help and to embrace the power of networking. And most importantly, I’ve learned that the best photographs are always the ones that capture the true essence of the subject.”

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

“I want people to know that I’m more than just a photographer,” Osherit says. “I’m a storyteller, a memory maker, and a passionate advocate for the power of photography to connect us all. I want my work to inspire people to cherish life’s precious moments and to see the beauty in the world around them.”
