We had the good fortune of connecting with Osew Ocean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Osew, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Im originally from New Jersey! I grew up primarily in North Carolina though. Grewing up with brothers made me very tom boyish on the inside but on the outside I was extremely prissy and I got that from my mom. I lived in a household where we was always ablate freely express ourselves whether it came to what was on our mind or the clothes we wanted to wear. I feel like that’s what made it easier for me to be a “dare devil” in a sense when it comes to what I wear or what clothes I decided to produce. Just growing up in a safe space where I always felt like I could openly be myself

made a great impact on my creative and artistic thinking.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
First and foremost I love my craft. I feel like it brings me my peace and my happiness and that’s how I really knew this was the craft for me, aside from me being good at it. Modeling and Fashion was something I’ve always been into since a little girl, I literally remember telling people like “Yeah I want to be a model” or how I want to make my own clothes, and did, cutting up jeans and jackets and the dying shirts. I remember cutting up my socks to make clothes for my stuff animals, like “yeah if Im going to be fly so are you” haha it was that deep and it was like once I moved to Atlanta and separated myself from what I was use to I was able to tap in to really sewing and it came soooo naturally. But was it easy? Is it easy? NO. I tell myself all the time this is hard but I love it! One of my biggest challenges was not being as consistent and I would just talk to God, talk to myself like “girl what is you doing? this is your dream right?” So it was like girllll do what you have to do cause no one can for you, and that’s real. Osew Ocean is all about DOING YOU, unapologetically and with confidence and that’s what I want my brand to be about!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Omg, I suck with remembering names to places but okay so aside from taking hereto a couple of clubs cause I am a party girls love a good time. But I would definitely take her to SCAD museum, Skyline park, The complex like really fun, high active places cause im a big kid at heart and so is she. As far as food I would take her to Solange, they have a very nice decor and food of course. We would probably eat at Touchdown Wings in Lawrenceville a couple times because their one of my favorite places to eat simply for their wings haha.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big Shout Out to one of my closest friends Ahminah. I feel like she was one person who really pushed my to make my big move to Atlanta and always on top of me when it came to making clothes, like when I had moments where I wasn’t going as hard for my craft, she would basically be that alarm saying “What are you doing?” “Get back into it!” and for that I really appreciate her.
