We had the good fortune of connecting with Oscar Frazier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oscar, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
One of the most pivotal decisions I made in my career was to embrace the philosophy of continuous learning and adaptability. Early on, I recognized that the world of business and leadership is ever-evolving, and to remain relevant and effective, one must be committed to growth and change.

This mindset was instilled in me from my humble beginnings in Charleston, SC, where perseverance was not just a trait but a necessity. Watching my parents navigate and overcome the challenges of raising a family in the South during a difficult time in American history taught me the value of resilience and adaptability. These lessons became the cornerstone of my career.

At the age of 20, I embarked on a journey with Fortune 500 companies, developing methodologies that empowered teams and leaders to achieve remarkable results. However, it wasn’t just about the methodologies; it was about continuously evolving them. Whether managing $30MM+ consulting portfolios or owning and operating a 12,000+ square-foot restaurant, the ability to learn, adapt, and apply new knowledge was crucial.

Investing in my education and professional certifications was another critical decision. Earning an MBA with a focus on Management and Quantitative Methods, becoming a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, a Project Management Professional (PMP), and a SAFe 5 Agilist provided me with a robust toolkit to navigate various business landscapes. These certifications were not just accolades but practical frameworks that I could adapt and apply to different situations.

Moreover, my global experiences have significantly shaped my perspective. Leading mission-critical trainings in diverse regions such as the USA, Europe, and Africa exposed me to various leadership styles and crisis management techniques. These experiences were invaluable, particularly in understanding that leadership is not a one-size-fits-all model. It requires a human-centered approach, agility, and a deep understanding of cultural nuances.

Writing my book, “Confessions: The Truth About Perfect Timing,” and contributing with over 20 published articles to global publications like Forbes, Black Enterprise, FOX, CBS, Business Ghana, and countless podcasts allowed me to reflect and share my learnings with a broader audience. These platforms provided me with the opportunity to distill complex leadership concepts into practical advice, further solidifying my understanding and commitment to continuous improvement.

In conclusion, the decision to commit to continuous learning and adaptability has been instrumental in my success. It has allowed me to remain relevant, effective, and resilient in an ever-changing business environment. This commitment not only enhanced my skills but also positioned me as a trusted leader and consultant, capable of driving significant change and innovation across various sectors.
