We had the good fortune of connecting with Orlena Wyatt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Orlena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I first began thinking of my concept for my program/business, Unplugged, I first thought of the people that would be apart of it. I envisioned everyone leaving with an EXPERIENCE. I wanted them to leave with an experience that was unique to each person. I also wanted to incorporate activities that I experienced as a child that my grandparents, Willie and Maude Dunson, worked hard to create and shared with me. As a city girl being blessed with this “country experience” I definitely stood out from the rest of my peers. So, this inspired me to do the same for other kids in the city. I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to give them the same experience my family gave me?! Because of this, Unplugged was created! Due to the lack of great telephone reception, the name Unplugged was fitting! It allows for individuals to disconnect from technology to focus on themselves and others around them. So, I began to look at Unplugged as a blank canvas. Every group would have a different experience, depending on their group leaders ideas and my childhood outside activities that I would create as EXPERIENCES. Since 2017, Unplugged has continued to expand into so many experiences from retreats involving Mental health, Fitness, and church groups. We have even allowed young professionals to come work on their photography skills in nature by capturing a variety of unforgettable memories for their clients. New ideas for my business continue to be revealed to me over time, so keep a look out for new and upcoming EXPERIENCES to be revealed!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a family nurse practitioner that practices in the specialty of gastroenterology. I have been practicing in gastroenterology for seven years. I am currently working with Digestive Healthcare of Georgia at the Piedmont Fayetteville and Newnan location. Over the years, I am most proud to see the growth of my confidence in my assessment skills and diagnosing abilities of my patients. I love the fact that the specialty continues to allow you to learn something new every day. I’ve always believed that it’s extremely helpful to work with great medical providers to teach you along the way, as well. To get to this position, it has taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice to really give exceptional and up-to-date health care to our patients. Where I am today, was not an easy road to travel, but I would not change my story for the world. It helped mold me into the medical provider that I am today. I have learned many lessons along the way, including how to professional interact with my patients, learn how to speak your mind to others while remaining professional, and always remember to do all things for a purpose. I would like the world to know that any of your dreams can be obtained but you definitely have to have the heart and dedication to be successful in the end. I truly believe if you keep God in front of you to lead the way, then it can only lead to great things and success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend to come into town, I would love to take them to the Mercedes Benz Stadium for an Atlanta United soccer game. The energy at these soccer games are on a whole other level than other sports! After the game, we would go to The Battery, which is located in Cobb county. This area has a variety of stores, restaurants, bars, and even cute wine shops. It would also be fun to go walk around Piedmont Park one day, where we could attend cool festivals, experience food from local restaurants via food trucks, or even just take it easy and relax on the lawn. In addition to the above, it’s always cool to visit the many historical sites in Atlanta. Our culture in Atlanta is so rich that anyone that visits must experience it all!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my mother (Ora Wyatt) and my family for the support of Unplugged and keeping our family place going. It’s great to be able to share our family story with others. All of my friends who have been there from the beginning have a special place in my heart. I thank everyone for the support and motivation to never stop!!💜
