We had the good fortune of connecting with Omeika Westry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Omeika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind my business is to educate individuals, particularly women, on how to leverage their faith to increase their finances. Listening to stories from my friends and family about how much uneventful lifestyle changes negatively impact their lives has definitely been the driving force behind the idea for my business.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m about ten years into my career in the auto insurance industry. Five of those years I’ve been in a leadership role. Throughout my career I’ve helped so many people shine. I consistently pay it forward because someone took a chance on me. I started in an entry level position back in 2014. I took a pay cut from my previous employer and moved from my small hometown, Houma, Louisiana, to the big city of Atlanta the weekend before my start date. I moved to create better opportunities for myself and my son. That was the hardest thing I had to do, but it paid off. I worked my way up the corporate letter in spite of not feeling like I deserved the life I was creating for us. I beat the odds. The lessons I learned were do it scared, tired, unqualified, it doesn’t matter, just do it. I’ve endured many “no’s” in my career before receiving my “yes”, but I persevered. I prayed about everything and kept my head up knowing my work ethic would eventually speak for me, until it finally did. I want the world to know I’m building a brand for the women who aren’t afraid to bet on themselves. I’m creating the blueprint for those that will come after me. I’m building a legacy for my family’s future. At the end of the day I want people to know all you need is faith.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, we would visit the Georgia Aquarium, The Martin Luther King Jr National Historical Park, the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and let’s not forget Ponce City Market for a variety of dining options. Speaking of dining, brunch is a must at either Buttermilk Kitchen, Silver Skillet, or The Flying Biscuit Cafe’ where we would be in for a treat. The weekend would not be complete without a little retail therapy at one of our great outlets.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am absolutely nothing without God. I thank Him daily for giving me vision and provision for my business. Shout out to my husband Glenn for believing in me and pushing me to be my best self. My son, Justin, for being one of my biggest supporters. Next, I would love to shout out my mom. Even in her earthly absence, I feel she is still here guiding me through life’s obstacles along with God’s help of course. I watched my mom make sacrificing and money management look like a breeze because we never lacked anything. My planner is dedicated to her. I want to shoutout my church. At The Faith Center located in Tucker, Georgia we truly do life together. I am so grateful for our Senior Pastor Vincent Campbell and First Lady Felicia Campbell for the example they set for all partners. They truly lead by example, particularly, in the areas of faith and accountability. Last but not least, shoutout to my Social Media Coach Cas Thompson for believing in my brand, and my Trademark Attorney, Rosezena J. Pierce, for helping me secure my brand and legacy.
