Meet Olympia Mix-Brown | Educator+ Storyteller + Copy & Content Writer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Olympia Mix-Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olympia, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
The life of a creative can definitely be a crazy journey! In addition to that, being a writer can sometimes mean you don’t get the credit you deserve for your work. It’s tough working really hard to bring words to someone’s vision and then not getting full acknowledgement for your work, but it’s only one aspect of the game. With that being said, I try to stay really intentional about who I work with and who I allow in my space. I’m big on congratulating and acknowledging people for every victory, so I definitely want the same energy in return. I’m serious and passionate about my work, I take a lot of pride in what I write, and I try to illustrate that in my work!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I guess the official name is Copywriter. For me, I love the term “Storyteller”. When I taught history, I was teaching my students a story, so I really approach my writing in the same way. Everything I write becomes a story, with a story comes an emotion or feeling. Even if people forget the words, they will remember how they felt after they read it, that’s how I approach my work.
If you ever look on a website, or look at the description on a product, even the captions on a social media post. Someone had to write it, right? That’s what I do.
I wear a lot of hats when it comes to writing, but each one brings out a different side of my creativity. I create everything from newsletters to blogs, captions to emails, Webcopy, proposals, grants and everything in between. Anything with words, I can write!
I am the Lead Copywriter for 2 non-profit agencies, a design agency, I also serve as a Newsletter Editor for multiple companies, I’m Jr. Writer on a few teams, I also have a stationary business, I make handwritten stationary and inspirational notes. …I guess you can say I love writing!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s tough! I’m a native of Atlanta so I definitely love all the local eateries in the city. To be totally honest, I love taking random drives through the city and finding new spots! It’s crazy how the city is constantly changing. I love going to any of the local farmers markets to support other entrepreneurs and definitely love going to Ponce City Market and the Edgewood Area. Atlanta really is the best city, I love every inch of it!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to shout out my mom every chance I get. She is really everything to me, to have a mother as compassionate, patient as my mom is, has been a blessing. She’s beautiful on the inside and outside and I’m super blessed to have her! My tribe of family and friends are an amazing, supportive group and I love and cherish them for continuing to motivate me!
